    "Low fuel" light problem

I was driving home tonight, and my low fuel light came on, even though I had over half a tank of gas. I stopped and shut the car off, and started it back up, the light stayed on. I shut the car off again, the light came on briefly, the went out. I continued on home, and the light came on again. About a mile from my house, the light went out. It then came on again a few minutes later. What is the problem with this thing? Is there a module or something that's going out? I asked my dad if it was doing it to him and he said it was (and of course he never bothered to tell me about is )

Anyway, anyone else have this problem before?

Put a piece of duct tape over the indicator light.

Could be, too cold out to go and start looking through the wiring and stuff. Have to wait till it warms up again I guess.

damn, you is anal retentive. Did you run out of gas.? No.? Don't worry about it.
Sometimes mine comes on at half a tank, sometimes at 1/4 tank, sometimes at 1/8 tank. Sometimes when I am on E.
You have a 20 year old car. Weird things are gonna happen. Will it strand you on the side of the road.? Nah. It just an annoyance.
I like to worry about the finer things in life. Like, what restaurant am I gonna go to to get my next Porterhouse. Or, what restaurant am I gonna go to to get my next piece of a$$. Or even better, what restaurant am I gonna go to to eat my porterhouse offa that fine peice of a$$.

I like my stuff to work right. Theres no reason not to fix it. Sure, I could leave it alone and go on my merry way, oblivious to the problems that accumulate, but I'm not that way. When something goes wrong I fix it. Theres no reason not to, unless you just don't give a shit about your car, but whatever.

Unplug the low fuel sending unit module and clean the contacts. Its located under the dash kind of near the gas pedal. Its a black box that says "low fuel indicator" or something like that on it. Mine used to do that crap too, but its been normal since I cleaned the contacts up. I used a bit of 1200 grit sandpaper on them. Don't polish it too much, its just a copper foil trace over a circuit board.

It all depends on the importance of the object. My brakes are brand new. My shocks are brand new. EFI components & sensors are new. Fresh oil, antifreeze, hoses & belts. Rust spots taken care of. New springs. All the power door locks work, and all the windows go up and down. Plus, I finally figured out a fix for the ever present door mechanism freezing during the first winter storm of the season. You know, the important things that make a vehicle stop and go. Mechanically, I have a low mileage new car.
An indicator light. Good lord, after I have spent all this time on the big items, an intermittent annoyance is very, very, very low on the list. Hell, the other night my low fuel light came on at full tank for a couple of miles, then went out. I just chuckled and went on my merry way. It's just a car, not a museum piece, not your girlfriend, not your favorite pet. It's supposed to have quirks. Otherwise it would be just like everyone elses.
On the plus side, when the light comes on, you tell your girl you ran out of gas, and you two have to make out for awhile.

Mark me down as anal retentive. It sucks really, cause its hard for me to enjoy things unless conditions are just right. I see others happy and I want to as well, I just cant get too excited anymore.
