Project towncar power trunk pull

It looks like the main unit will bolt right in place of my trunklid catch, and looks like it even lines up right with the latch

The upper switch might be the trouble... if I cant swap the latch onto my bracket, Im going to have to try and swap the little switch and wiring off the donor latch and onto mine. The latches looked maybe a little different so I may have to do some modifying :hacksaw:

I was hoping I could eliminate this switch, but it being open tells the pull motor to stop in the up position. The lower switch tells it to stop in the down position, but only when the upper switch is closed as well.

Take a look at the attached wiring diagram (courtesy of Thaine (gadget) along with most of the parts) and the short video clip of my testing to see how the thing behaves with the switches.

Hopefully soon I will have video of my trunk getting pulled down

I hate watching people slam hoods and trunks anyway. I hate the bug sheild on my truck. It messed with the hood latching and I have to really slam it to make it shut properly.

Pete, screw the regular pulldown - be a badass and make a one that closes the trunklid from all the way up open position

The motor is off a towncar - and I think the upper switch Thaine got for me is off a mark something. I dont know if the towncar one is different.

BUT... it looks like I will be able to rig the switch to attache to my latch. Whether its in the right place to work... we shall see

Upper switch is Towncar, pulldown is Mark VII.

Ivan: The new Townies do have that. Dereck had one at one of the breakfast meets and he was showing it off. It was very cool. Had a motor attached to the hinge and was operated via remote control.

Well I got the wire harness for the upper switch in place and run down to the trunklid support (run inside the factory trunk popper loom) and I installed a fused power feed to that point too.
From there it will all go under the carpet to the catch, after a quick-wire test install of course.
Hopefully I'll be able to finish it up by sunday

Were you able to fix that yet? It looks like the top of the pull needs to come in closer to the trunk to get it to catch that latch.

Geeze! its only been 11 minutes

I am frustrated....already like this with the washers, the rod for the trunk keyhole doesnt reach so it doesnt work.
The thing lines up perfect on the one axis but cant reach far enough into the center to grab a hold.
Id have to bend the brackets or something more in order to get them to connect...
