Please let us know if things are working or not. This is still somewhat a work in progress so don't be too surprised if things magically appear from one visit to the next.
if the rod for the trunk lock doesn't reach what about one out of a hachback escort? my sister had to replace one once and the things have like a four or six inch long rod on them! a hatched stang or capri might have one long enough as well!

well not only does that part not reach, but i had the thing spaced out with washers and it looked like the smaller surface area of the washer holding the e thing to to trunk lid would make it weak.
I dont know if the funny angles would tweak it some way that might cause damage...
BUT there is still hope... I was in a random junkyard a few weeks ago and noticed a 90's Continental that had a power trunk pull with the rear edge of the catch extended out like a "P" shape.... it may be what I need. They wanted 20 bucks for it so I passed - I can do better than that.
I grabbed one of those early 90's continental parts and sure enough the thing is extended out just how I need it to be. Wether or not it is enough to make it work, we shall see.
What I have done is taken apart both pull down motors and swapped the striker catch/gear out of the continental one and into the towncar one.
The whole continental motor looked like it would have worked as it is, but this particular one had a bad motor, and the wiring of the connector is a little different.
Stay tuned for the test latch. it will decide the fate of this project!!!!

The TC actually has a plastic cover for it. The trunk carpet just has a hole cut out for the plastic cover. Could probably do the same with your CV trunk carpet.
