    My odometer stopped turning.

I just noticed my odometer hasn't been working. I think it stopped a couple of months ago when I hurt the tranny. I could have happened when I had the heater core replaced earlier this year. (I never really keep track of the mileage. It reads "83337").

What's usually the reason why the odometer stops turning?

Yours would have the electric motor in the speedo assembly to run the odometer. Usually the plastic gears break and it stops working. There is some company that makes brass ones, but I've heard other people have just used superglue to stick the old gears back together.

Yeah, that's pretty common on the 90-91 boxes. You could always just replace the cluster with a Ford 140mph one.

The brass gears are like 65 bucks, or they were a couple years ago.

Damn Ford with their stupid plastic gears in everything. Plastic TV cable bushing, plastic gears in the doors for the windows. Plastic gears in the odometer.

Anyone know how much a shop charges the replace those odo gears?

There's an interior shop a few miles away. I'll get a price from them. I'll also try to find a 140 mph speedo. I'd really like everything on my car to work. I hate when you ride in someone else's car and the power seat is broken or the window won't go down or the car has ripped seats. I want everything on my car to work.

Search for brass gears on CVN, there might still be a topic about them there. That's about all you're gonna get NEW.

Once you've got the gear and the cluster is out of the dash, their is some surgery involved no? Would I be better off just replacing the cluster?
