You know, I was looking in a Grand Marq today at the boneyard, it had autolamp but no auto-dim. No sensors or wiring on the rearview mirror at all. I've never seen a Townie with just auto-lamp though so probably the system is wired different. Everything else is different on a stinkin Lincoln.

Oh, just something to consider, price that headlight switch before you go buying stuff. I was never so glad to not have an option on my car till I had to replace that switch. The one for autolamp/autodim listed for $200. The one for my car cost me like $40.

Oh, I already have the headlight switch, bought off eBay it like an year ago for reasons I no longer remember. Overall install shouldn't be that bad if the harnesses are there, which I'll have to check upon my next junkyard visit.

Crown Vics and Grand Marquis don't have auto-dim, that's just a Lincoln thing.

I dont think they are. I know the one overhead to the mirror isn't there, and I've never seen a plug laying under the dashpad for the light sensor. I've had my car apart enough times I'm sure I'd have noticed it by now. Its possible its taped down to the harness somewhere though.

When I did my heater core I was trying to put in the auto lamp from my old parts car. I pulled the sensor from under the dash as well as the switch. I tried finding a harness for the sensor and it wasnt there so I gave up on it.

OK, so next time I visit a junkyard that will be top priority, figuring the wiring out first.

Pete, how would you go for that capacitor you mentioned for the interior lights?

Feel free to tear it apart and look for yourself. While you're in there, change my heater core.

Sure, no problem, just bring her over here and I'll take very good care of her On a side note, is your heater core leaking already? Din't you replace that not too long ago?

Youd wire it just like for a stereo - ground the negative side of it, and wire the positive side inline with the courtesy light circuit.
I plan to use a 0.5 farad one since they are only about the size of a pop can. With my LED courtesey lights it should be enough to give a nice fade out, 0.5farad might fade a little fast with incandescent lights though.
