Mainemantom's base model 1989 Lincoln Towncar

Here is the history of this car. In 1990 the Towncar body style changed. Some Lincoln buyers wanted the new style so there was a abundance of 89s available at the new car lots. I bought this Lincoln on August 7 1990 at a Lincoln Mercury dealership in Buena Park Ca. (LA area) The car was a "program car" with 7,600 miles on it.. Sticker price was $28,000. I got it for $ !7,502 including tax and license. That was a price of a Ford Taurus at that time.
I have ALL maintenance records and every piece of paper on the car. The car features a padded half vinyl top, Lace aluminum wheel, Leather interior, Am/fm cassette which was replaced by a Kenwood stereo. Dual exhaust, Maintenance was done every 3,000 miles. Most of the miles were highway miles. Current mileage is 228,000 miles. Transmission was replace at 159,000 miles due to OD band failure.
A 130 amp alternator and wiring upgrade was done 7-2021. A/C changeover to R-134 was done about 25 years ago and this summer the AC got evacuated and recharged.I replaced the vinyl top in 2002. The car has been in two accidents. The ex wife got hit in the front. The left front fender had to be replaced. I got rear ended on the highway in Ca. when traffic suddenly stopped. A guy in a Toyota Camry who was on the phone and hit it at about 50 mph. The toyota ended up going under the Lincoln. The Rear bumper, filler, exhaust and rear quarter panel damage had to be replaced or repaired. A total repaint, new dual exhaust and a tail light assembly was replaced. I shipped the car to Maine in 2007. It has been kept garaged and not used ever in the winter. I am now replacing the water pump and all hoses. No future projects are scheduled at this time.
Some pictures will be posted as soon as I find them.

Does this one have rear window trim and a full top? Some of the really basic base models did. Mine is that way, pretty uncommon package and I had a devil of a time finding spare rear window trim.

The Lincoln has a half top and the same window trim as the 89 Signature. I have tried to locate pictures however they are gone. After the water pump job is done, I will take new pictures.

so no trim. Looks like your Sig has the frenched in rear window with the vinyl tucked around it. Mine has trim thats the same basic style as the windshield trim. Seems the trim and the full top was a poverty spec thing that most people didn't order.

I can look at the 89 Lincoln ordering book to see if the full window was an option or standard. I remember renting a 86 LTC when they were new. The Lincoln had the full rear window and full vinyl top.

According to my book, There were three choices for vinyl roofs in 1989. The full vinyl roof with frenched rear window which was standard. The optional half roof with frenched rear window. and the Carriage top.
From looking at the LTC brochures, 1986 seems to be the last year a big rear window was offered.

Well that probably explains why I've seen so few of them.

Aren't the rear window frames the same no matter what top you got? I recall stumbling upon a Town Car in a yard years ago that had it's vinyl top removed, The scum line "frame" from where it had been was evident on the window. Even the defrost grid was narrower to match the top, made it seem like the window was smaller when it actually wasn't. The lines on the roof were fugly just like gadget said they were. Was the first time I saw one topless and seeing was indeed believing. They certainly weren't designed to be slick topped.

I do remember seeing something like that as well.

yea there is a fiberglass or plastic surround in there to cover part of the glass. The actual cutout in the body and the glass overall dimensions are the same so far as I know.
