CFI in Cali smog-nazi land. Sounds like a frightening idea for sure. Car looks nice tho. The trans goofiness might be fixed with a bottle of Trans-X or similar to de-goop the sticky valves in the body. It sounds like classic old transmission "morning sickness" to me.

The PO had it smogged for me, so I don't have to deal with that for another two years. In this county, the smog test is not as stringent as, say, LA county. Rocinante passed without any problems.

The transmission was rebuilt at 151K miles, it now has 187K miles. AFAIK, the engine is still the original one. The trans fluid was changed not too long ago, it looked pretty good when I checked it the other day. I will look into the Trans-X stuff.

Cleaned the wheels today, and yesterday. Years and years of road grime buildup that the drive-through car wash couldn't reach, I guess. Wheel cleaning spray, a wheel brush and a toothbrush.
I wouldn't want to run this car through an automatic car wash, because those things never clean thoroughly enough, and I've heard it's bad for the vinyl tops...

                Some pics of the interior.
I haven't really cleaned it up inside since I got it, because it was pretty clean to begin with There are some tiny pockets of grime here and there, which a toothbrush will take care of, and when I get around to it.

Now, if only I can keep it that way.
No garage, and I'm near the ocean. I think I'll invest in a car cover...

BTW, an update on the transmission, it *seems* to be working better since the tuneup. Also, I found out the tranny was rebuilt at 151K, so it has about 35K on it now. And it's been faithfully maintained and serviced.
I haven't done much with Rocinante lately becaused I'm focused on giving the Golf a tuneup. The tuneup parts cost twice as much.

If only the GM had the mpg that the Golf has... life would be perfect.

Those hubcaps are actually capable of shining? Wow, I've never actually seen a set looking like that. Usually they're all dingy and crappy looking. You have far more patience than I do for stuff like that. Car looks darn nice. I do like the earlier GM dash with that brushed aluminum or silver trim. It matches the guage cluster rather nicely.

The wheels aren't as perfect as they look in the picture, since reducing the pics tend to clean things up a lot. So, I took a closeup. Dings, and waterspots notwithstanding. :p
