Not sure if I should post the pics here or in the 4.6L section.
At any rate, I finally installed PI cams in the Vic.
Getting the passenger side valve cover off was a major PITA. It would not clear the heater box on the firewall.
We ended up unbolting the engine and pulling it forward.
When we first assembled the engine and fired it up, we got a knocking noise.
We thought one of the chains might have skipped a tooth on start-up so we removed the accessories and removed the front cover.
Thankfully, they were lined up and we could turn the motor by hand. Had their been piston-to-valve contact, we would not have been able to turn it.
Fired up the Vic again and still heard the knocking noise.
We next removed the passenger side valve cover and spotted a follower that had come off. We reinstalled the follower and the engine finally ran with no issues.
I also installed 2003 GT valve covers, with the oil fill on the passenger side, in anticipation of installing the "zip tube" that comes standard on 2003 Crown Vics, Grand Marquis, and Town Cars.
Here are pics of the ordeal.
Now, I need to do something about this.
