none of these cars came with a single belt setup- One belt drives the A/C and smog pump, and the other drives the water pump, PS, and alternator. That said it would be a lot easier if you were to find a later stock setup when redoing the A/C. Mine thankfully came with it, and will maintain it! I'm fairly certain a couple members might be holding on to the coveted 351W A/C bracket. The question is whether they are will to part with it. Wagonman has an excellent collection of parts, I'm not sure if he has a bracket though.
I believe you are absolutely right with the 351w A/c bracket as far as size differences, it is also aluminum. you could certainly make you own, but that would be a lot of work, especially without a template-Phil

I was thinking I could just modify a 302 unit if I have to (A/C bracket). Right now I've got a V-belt for the A/C and a serpentine for everything else. "Smog pump" was separate also (V-belt), but now uses an "invisible" belt.
This requires more study on my part. There are two serpentines on the later box Panthers? I think Mustangs have a "uni-belt", don't they? (I know the A/C compressor is in a different location). I'll need as simple as possible because I plan to add a GIANT belt at some later date for a huffer!sigpic

Yes, that's VERY helpful, thanks! The alt/ps pump/water pump setup seems identical to mine. Obviously, the a/c and associated brackets and pulleys are different.
Kudos on the AFB-type carb!!! I have run Holleys, but I'll take a good ol' Carter/Edelbrock/Weber any day of the week. I like the AVS in particular due to the easily tweaked secondary air-door tension. These (under the original Carter name) came from the factory on quite a variety of 60's and early 70's Mopar "muscle". I have tuning them down to a science. Holley vacuum secondary carbs are total junk if you ask me (let the debate begin!)!!!sigpic

Love the 2 headlights and no roof rack, and the antenna. 351 swap will really put it over the topsigpic

I can relate! 70s plastic FTL
Every interior panel in my car is a different shade of red. It’s hideous.
Your tint helped I bet with the fading..

I replaced the missing piece of windshield trim early on, by the way. The wiper linkage was so loose (still is!) and arms "mis-clocked" (fixed that) that the blade had knocked the trim clean off for a previous owner!sigpic

Love seeing more wagons, especially an early model. Hope your 351 build goes well, I'll definitely be tuning into this thread.
BTW, I see Georgia plates in a few pictures. Still in the state, or somewhere else in the southeast?

Thanks guys! The carb is a newer Edelbrock AVS 1906, with the annular boosters. It does pretty well on gas (I get 18-20 MPG highway depending on how hard/fast I drive it)
I have the BBK 351W swap headers. I was never overly impressed with them, mediocre build quality, and as you can see, the expensive coating quickly failed. I would get the chrome ones if i was doing it again, maybe even coat them. They are the easiest route to go when coupled with a mustang H-Pipe-Phil

I had dual 525-ish CFM Carter AFB's on a 440 in my '65 Belvedere (The CFM is a ball park because these were modified and tweaked OEM carbs from stock 413's - the primaries and secondaries were relatively small, don't remember the dia.). It certainly wasn't a gas-mileage car, but even with 3.91 gears, the fuel burn was pretty tame - until you stood on the "loud pedal" that is!!! The progressive linkage that I fabricated for it was the key - I could feel a "detent" in the pedal when front carb primaries opened (normal cruising was rear primaries), followed by another for the rear carb secondaries, and finally a third for the front carb secondaries, after which point all eight barrels were hanging wide open. I could actually see the gauge moving toward empty as I got pressed back in the seat! Now obviously, some of that was the gasoline moving to the back of the tank as well (standard "pancake" arrangement underfloor tank), but it never came back to where it was before the romp!!! I also had to clean large insects and small animals off of the outside of the air cleaners periodically (j/k - on the animals, at least! )
Sorry to hear about the build quality and finish of your BBK headers, Brown_Muscle. In my case, I wish I could get them pre-rusted! Mine is a "sleaze" project - the more the patina, the more the better!Last edited by Quincy; 12-18-2020, 03:35 PM.sigpic
