At least you got yours off; my old S-10 front shocks rotted through the shell. When I went to remove them, the square nub on the top kept rounding and breaking off all the way down to the threaded portion. I was going to get a large grinding wheel, but my Dad intervened and said "no". LOL

I didn't bother with that stupid nub. If you put a jack under the control arm, you can raise the upper enough to fit a giant vise grip in there and clamp down on the shaft itself. Worked like a charm

if that won't work, you use a long extension and a socket and just rock the thing until the stud snaps. There is always a way. I've never had that stupid nub work for anything.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).
