What a beautiful car! I've only seen one other '79-'87 Grand Marq in that color, was an '83-'85 two door out in the sticks. Long drives are good for these cars, and you can bond with them a lot during this time. Find out the quirks, make sure everything feels okay, and just enjoy. Good on you to keep her out of the nasty stuff. And yeah those pre '88 clusters are kinda stupid to try to see at night. Even the '88+ clusters aren't the greatest hence the digidash swap on my '89.
'89 Grand Marquis "Ebyt", '85 Grand Marquis "Eva", '94 Caprice "Kira"
'84 Town Car "Stacy", '79 New Yorker “Anita", '93 Town Car "Kelly"
'80 Mark VI "Allie", '94 Grand Marquis coming June, '79 LTD-S "Oksana"

Nearly impossible to see the speedo needle at night time.
I was getting the thought I was the only one that has found that flood style lighting somewhat poor. I'm personally thinking about opening up the cluster, removing the lighting filters if possible and dropping in some warm white LEDs. I think someone around here did a swap like that, but I need to find the thread.

Definitely looks like you got a great deal.

            Thanks guys!

Well couldn't wait til Saturday, it's 43 degrees and sunny and I'm about 3 hours into a major detail.

Got the wheels and tires done.

            Top is cleaned and dressed.

Washed the car, used my Nanoskin mitt for clay/prep

About 3/4 done with the 105/205 compounding process. Coming out great! Paint is really nice.

Stopped for a little lunch break, pics later.

Looks good. I always did like that color paint, its got enough metal in it to sparkle without being obnoxious.

I approve. How much color transfer did you have onto your pads?

                        Thanks guys.

First go round with the 105 they got gummed up quick. Seemed like a lot of oxidation, pads were dark brown.

With the 205 it wasn't a large amount of transfer. I didn't use an extremely agressive pad either.
