Call me crazy, but it looks like the muffler has been blown apart.

I'm not the only one seeing that, am I?

A stop sign will patch the floor nicely. I would clear over the rust and make a sleeper from hell.

He wrote in his post this vehicle has a pan fill c4 as opposed to a case fill.

                    pan fill... goofy looking IMO.

Got the front of the motor disassembled a bit on the front so i could turn it by hand while the battery charged. motor has compression, distributor turns, don't think the "timing chain broke" pulled both valve covers to check the lash on the pushrod, feels good. It turns over on the key with a charged battery too.

Going to check for spark, and pull the plugs and see if they tell me anything.

Do 79's have the terrible plastic coated timing gears? May have just jumped time. Either way it's boat anchor motor.

Find out soon enough, might was well tear it down that far since i think i'm going to toss some gt40 or p heads on it.

Plugs look good from when it ran last, and the AC was dead so out it came with the smog pump.

                            I was thinking this.

Either a really neat sleeper, or a cool car to trailer the tudor to the track with.

This is hands down the greasiest motor I've ever wrenched on. It was seriously an inch thick under the distributor, in the valley made by the block and timing cover.

Pretty sure it jumped. If that is a timing mark on the top gear.

                                yup. POS nylon timing gear.
