Got a little intermittent miss on idle while warm. Used to not bug me but now that I do 15 miles of city driving a day, its starting to get on my nerves a little bit. Any hints? I'll be doing the fuel filter here soon. Ran the self diagnostic test and from what I can tell everything iws working fine for me.

Might just need a good highway run (30 minutes to an hour at operating temp) in drive to clear it out.

Yeah I'll probably try that out soon. I need to get out of town where the speed limit is only 55. I am lugging hard all the time.

Check the plugs closest to the firewall too, those like to get skank on 'em. You said you hadn't messed with the TFI yet right? That's something to look into as well.

I have multiport so I am not sure where to start looking on that. When I did the self test everything checked out alright.

I'll probably be replacing injectors come spring whenever I do a mustang upper. That way I can also do the pcv valve.

Whenever I went and romped on her hard it seemed to smooth out so I'm wondering if there just isn't carbon build on the plugs from running with a bad tfi unit for so long. Might look in to it this weekend.

Dats what we be sayin'. Check dem plugs for smut. I heard bad TFI's can cause wonky stuff at idle but could also be that pick-up in the distributor too. I don't have any first hand experience with it though. My car will sometimes stumble in reverse if I touch the throttle quickly and then let go, seems like it's missing but it's the only time it does it so I'm not worried about it yet.

I had replaced the tfi unit. My brain was asleep yesterday aparently.

Alrighty, so a friend gave me his old subwoofers and I have an amp...

So I think the stock 2G alternator will probably die under these conditions.

Is there a 3G alternator swap guide here? Maybe even a list of what alternators fit 100% and what ones don't?

                  Comment

Yep, under the electrical section. My 2G lived but wasn't good enough. I put a 3G from a Windstar on when you're supposed to use one from a V6? SN95 Mustang. It will allow you more options with the belt. I also used a charge wire from a 3G equipped Lincoln Continental, has a fusible link in it so you don't have to remote mount the big fuse somewhere and slips right over the starter solenoid's stud. It was a bit too short to go from the passenger fender though the core support to the driver's fender and then up along where the original wire went up to the alternator. Instead I had to come up the driver's side frame rail but looks just fine and factory. I used wireharness retainers from a GMT400 truck, taken from the license plate harness, you'll need to harvest 2 or 3 trucks to have enough.

Which ones are the GMT400's? Of course, I may just use le zip ties.

You know, I'd like to place an order for a custom subbox for my TC, tired of the dumb box sliding all over my trunk. Want it tucked up on the right side. GMT400's are the pick-ups from 1988-1998, Chevy & GMC. I used a few zip ties too.

Mine are built for the little "shelves" on either side of the trunk. The boxes are built a little wonky compared to my drawing because I was sick and sometimes offset the sawblade by 1 1/2" and sometimes by 1 1/4". But, they still came together in a vaguely box shaped manner, so I'm calling it a win.

Today I'm cutting out the holes for the subs and for the ports. Tuesday I'll probably get the wires ready to go and Thursday I'll get everything installed.

Yeah, that's what I want, a box for the shelves. Make me one that'll fit a 10 please

Well someone cut the hole too big for the subwoofer so his is turning in to a recessed box apparently...

Derek, these are ... rough. You can have them for the ride whenever I redo them in the spring. I'm going to be doing them a bit different and not just rolling with mistakes next time. But this last saturday was my first saturday off since moving up here.

                              It fits.

Fixed the door lock today so my driver's door locked. My Dad was riding my ass about it. So I told him whenever someone breaks my window to steal my stuff that he has to buy my new window.

Hmm yeah, it doesn't fit all the way in there does it? Kinda how I want mine to be. I'll also get another trunk pad to hack up so it stays and fits right. Got one from an '89 but it is different from an '88. Weird.
