"trac-loc" = "posi"
Traction control is something different. It is based on applying abs tech to spinning rear wheels.03 Marauder DPB, HS, 6disk, Organizer Mods> LED's in & Out, M&Z rear control arms, Oil deflector, U-Haul Trans Pan, Blue Fuzzy Dice

when putting in gears, a limited slip differential (track-lok: ford term/posi: chevy term) is suggested since the higher gear ratio will allow you to spin the tires easier. Even with those wide tires you have, in the wet, slippage with one wheel drive (open diff) can be a pain as the traction control will just prevent you from going anywhere in certain situations while the limited slip diff will let you start moving as it will get power to the non-spinning wheel better. As for which will be out more money, each one is about the same amount, but you get best results with both.

A posi differential will work with any gears you have. There is no need to change the ratio (gears) unless you want to change the ratio/gears. They are two different sets of parts (gears & differential) that work together inside the pumpkin. The gears effect how quick you can accelerate, at a cost of fuel economy and the LSD/posi makes both wheels drive the car. If you have a powerful car you need posi just to be able to get the power to the road. Otherwise you get a "one wheel peel." This is not generally the issue with mostly stock panthers.
There are different types of Posi units and different configurations. The differences are pretty much in how much you want the right and left wheels to slip from each other. The less slip you have the more wheel hop on turns but the better your straight on acceleration in dry and adverse conditions like snow or mud.03 Marauder DPB, HS, 6disk, Organizer Mods> LED's in & Out, M&Z rear control arms, Oil deflector, U-Haul Trans Pan, Blue Fuzzy Dice

The people on this site know a lot about cars. Especially on a cumulative basis. That is what makes it tops.03 Marauder DPB, HS, 6disk, Organizer Mods> LED's in & Out, M&Z rear control arms, Oil deflector, U-Haul Trans Pan, Blue Fuzzy Dice

Ok, I would suggest upgrading to 4.10 rear gears because it'll help your car move with those larger diameter wheels on it.
If it has the rear axle from a CVPI, so you more than likely have a 3.55 rear gears since 3.51 gears do not exist in Ford 8.8 rear ends, FYI.
4.10 gears with trac-loc would be the shizzle for your ride. Just don't forget to calibrate your gears in your PCM. From 03+, if you change rear gears, you have to flash your PCM so that the speedometer reads correct.
For your transmission, I would suggest upgrading your torque converter to at least a 3000 stall. That would help your car out. Along with a deeper transmission pan and an additional transmission cooler. Heat is the big killer of automatic transmission. So, to cool it down would help out a bunch.
Maybe throw in an aluminum drive shaft to lessen the rotational mass of the drive shaft. You can find them in the junk yard for relatively cheap.
I'd also recommend a shift kit. You can perform a J-mod on it, for very not a lot of cash. It's a home made shift kit that doesn't require many parts.
OK, I'm done for now. Getting too tipsy to keep going and make sense.
