Yea its loaded. Grandma must have been the second position because I pressed the second button and it went to the steering wheel. Only things that don't work are the rear windows (obviously) and the radio is shot

I found some underside photos. There is the dreaded water in the passenger floor well, so that might just be a clogged wiper cowl. How much do you know about the HO conversion? I am trying to decide between buying a HO motor or just swapping the intake, tb etc.

Shoot that things cleaner than my '03, I'm VERY jealous!!!

As far as I know (which very well could be wrong) the block, crank and i believe the pistons are the same. So there really wouldn't be any reason to swap the entire engine. If it were me, id just do the Intake, heads and cam, just that alone should give a very nice improvement in power.

Where in particular did you find this? I want to say that I saw this car for sale in the Car Corral at Auburn car auction a couple of weeks ago, but not sure if this was the one or not. I think the guy was asking some ludicrous amount. $6,800 maybe?

I found it in Des Moines, Iowa. I paid far less than that.

Very nice find! Clean, loaded and a towing package car = major win! Enjoy it

The moonroof was one of the few optional features on the Cartier, at least for box Townies.

The only options it does not have are the cell phone, cd player and auto dim mirror. I don't know if two of those were even an option in 90

The auto-dim mirror was definitely an option, probably an electrochromatic one (my '85 has the motorized flip 1st-gen auto dim). Pretty sure a CD player was available too. Not sure about the phone...may have been '92 or so by the time it appeared.

Oh man, if i could get a stock cd player, and have a usb port added, that would be awesome. I have a gentex mirror im going to be addding, i just need to figure out how to mount the autodim headlight sensor.

From my experience, it seems that failure of these early fully-electronic audio systems is becoming fairly common if they are seldom used. I bet there is some sort of integrated circuit arrangement in the power amp which kicks the bucket. The head unit will power up but no sound - I assume this is the case with your '90?

That would take some rather advanced circuit knowledge/design! I long for the same upgrade, but you would literally need full schematic diagrams for the head unit, advanced know-how of where to tap into the pre-amp with your USB/digital-to-analogue converter, and capability to do VERY fine soldering (if the USB was integrated into the factory HU). Much easier to hide an aftermarket HU somewhere, or settle for a tape adapter or FM modulator.

Paul Protos rebuilds the older JBL headunits and does a pretty good job for reasonable money. They do get marginal with age. Not sure when the CD player was first available. I know you could get the add-on unit in 1987 with the Town Cars.
