should be the same as my 88 MGM. 10w30 until it starts the lopo knock and then 10w40 until it really starts to knock and then 20w50 until it dies. Then replace with HO or some built engine and hoon it.

yeah, 10w30 should be what the owner's manual calls for. They last a very long time with regular oil and filter changes. No special voodoo or magic snake oil or anything like that required.

Barely cracked 40 today here so I thought with the heatwave I would get around to doing something on the Linc. My new coil springs have just been sitting in a box in the garage doing nothing. Been saving so that I can go pay the sales tax on it and go get the tags for it in a few weeks. Been too cold and shitty out to drive it anyways. Today's job wasn't too exciting, but it was nice to see the results. First, I swapped the wiper blades. Yeah, not exciting. No pictures of that. Second, I swapped out the original rear coil springs. I was amazed how easy it really was to change these things. Followed everyone's advice just as they said and they popped right out and back in without any struggles. I am guessing most are probably not surprised, but the originals were sagging, even with only 52k easy miles on them. The spring insulators were about disintegrated also so I changed those as well. Here are the results (sorry for bad photo quality):

No idea why the measurements are not consistent from side to side, but I am not going to complain with it that close. One other thing crossed off the list.

I think these things are all a little off like that. I pretend it was engineered that way so that when you're sitting in the car, it levels. In reality its probably the frame being slightly tweaked from years of engine torque.

Since I haven't been updating shit, here goes.

Got all of the necessary exhaust equipment in the trunk ready to install. Just need to get someone scheduled to do it. Apparently, the local Tuffy says their computer "likes to lose appointments older than a week". Sounds like a janky ass operation to me.

A/C is blowing nice and cold. Parts - $60, two hours of my own sweat changing out o-rings and the like, Refrigerant and labor: $158 = $218. Not too bad. Original compressor is still humming along.

Still trying to chase down the misfire "bucking" issue that I have when coasting or decelerating. Going to start swapping ignition components back with the old shit that I have lying around to see if that makes any difference. Unfortunately, I threw away the old wires so I will have to buy a new set. Are these cars particularly picky about brand/size of wires? I went with Motorcraft wires last time around. From what I recall, the car ran better with the old shit on there than the new shit. Have to check vacuum lines to the canister solenoid too and do the cylinder balance test with my code reader.

Haven't really had time to get to anything cosmetic. Went to the junkyard for some parts raping. They had one '89. Grabbed the glovebox door and under glovebox insulation shield as my insulation is trashed. Found out there's a difference from '87 to '89 on this particular part. '87 is a smooth fiberglass coating over cloth fibers - '89 is carpet covered cardboard. Both are almost identical in shape, however. Still looking for various trim pieces that no one can seem to find.

Air suspension still does not work - replaced the module with no change so must be the level sensor.

Still haven't gotten my fucking original glove box door back from Tim Nill. Last time I send anything to him.

I have no idea if I will have the car done in time to show in September. I'd just be happy to get the bucking fixed at this point.

Tim has what is called "The Lincoln Ranch" in Lithia, FL. He's a Lincoln resto specialist. He focuses on the 60's models as well as the 80s boxes. He's a pretty good guy and reasonably priced, but can be horribly slow. He's had my glovebox door since December to which he claimed he could fix. Still waiting on it and starting to get impatient.....
