Made some small progress in the last couple of days. Hacked up the 07' rad support and made some rough mounting plates for the 85' rad support. Gonna make them a bit nicer then weld it all together.

Did some more work on the car today. Welded up the header panel so that's ready to be painted.
Also started tinkering with the dash. I am having trouble figuring out how to get the box steering shaft attached to the 03+ steering rack as they are completely different.
Plan B is whale dash swap... I made a mock up.
Nowhere near a direct bolt on. Good thing I had a donor car to play around with. top of the dash needed to be trimmed...heavily to clear the windshield. Bottom holes line up though pass side needs to be lowered an inch to sit even with the other side.

You sure did find the right car to do this with. Mods could be much more brain numbing.

Made some more progress today. Test fitted the whale heater and ac box which bolts right in. Dash also fits surprisingly well and lines up with the heater box. Might have to make a half inch spacer though or bring the dash closer to the firewall. Had to trim the metal dash frame a little on the driver side but otherwise went right in. Looks like I trimmed too much at the top so might have to find another dash skin at the junkyard. when it's all finished for better look.
Firewall will need to be modded for the whale steering shaft bearing. I hacked off a donor piece from the parts car so I should be able to make something that works.

Moving along slowly but surely. Welded up the firewall today to fit a Whale steering shaft.
As it turns out Whale parking brake pedal bolts right onto the box like it was meant to be there. I also started prepping the frame by grinding away any rust. Still not sure what to use for coating. Been reading a lot of reviews on POR-15, Eastwood and Rust Bullet. Still not sure what I want to use but leaning towards POR-15.

Got a little more done today. I removed front suspension and started grinding all the rust off the frame. Sadly the 07' frame is not rust free like the 85' frame was. Plenty of surface rust to grind. I did both frame rails in front of the firewall.
After much reading I decided to give Miracle Paint a shot. It's suppose to be as good as POR-15 but without all the extra prep work. I ordered a quart last night so it should be here sometime next week hopefully.
Also, welded in a piece of 07' firewall with a correct steering shaft opening.
The 07' dash fits surprisingly well in there.

Coming along nicely. Can't wait to see the finished product.1990 MGM: $50 E7 heads, HO cam, Holley SysteMAX lower intake, HO upper intake with an Explorer TB. LSC ECM. Lincoln logs into stock dual exhaust. K&N drop in air filter. Wide ratio AOD, 2400 converter with a 3.08 one tire fire out back. Car is less slow now. Then there's the '92 Beater. Dual 2.25" exhaust with shiny tips. Rumbles nice. Super slow. Burns oil too.

TOY!
I want to turn one of mine into a real toy... but I don't have the tools or funds right now to really do so. I'll just live vicariously through projects like this.
