that is beautiful i love the barges, its a lipstick and white luxury group option. reading some info on the mark iv it looks like it might have ABS. its called sure track ABS. i noticed on the mark iv's that the rub strips on the siding actually have a etched design to them if you look closely at them. there not flat like boxes. Designer series for the mark iv started in 1976. i wonder if the c6 3 speed transmission has a upgradeable kit for 4 speed not sure. but thats the reason why they werent that good on gas is becuase they didnt have overdrive. from the factory these 460's put out a little more than 350 Pounds of torque. if gas prices werent high i would get me a barge mark V

Yes! I just had the cats and resonators cut out and patched with straight pipe at a local muffler shop. I had them leave the mufflers on. The exhaust sounds so much better now, not too loud, but a nice throaty sound. Makes me wonder why they put resonators on at the factory. She runs a little better too, warms up faster, idles smoother, and doesn't get really hot. I'll have to check the mpg, I was getting a solid 10 with the cats on. The cats were aftermarket ones, and whoever installed them put two different ones on each side. I kept both, but I'm not sure what to do with them, any ideas?

My friend and I are going to rebuild the front end. I just purchased new kyb shocks, upper and lower control arm bushings, strut rod bushing kits, link kits, and upper and lower ball joints. In the meantime, I'm getting estimates from body shops to patch the rust, and from auto upholstery shops to replace the vinyl top.

Thanks man, It does have the sure track ABS along with 4-wheel disc brakes. Although I don't think the ABS works as the brake light on the dash is stuck on. I dig the design on the trim too. It might be possible to upgrade the c6, but I wouldn't want to mess with that. I wish I could find some new side moldings for the driver's side as they are kind of dinged up. I wonder how many lipstick editions were made in '75. I've heard it was around 2,000.

They put resonators because customers back then, wanted their lincoln to run wisper quiet. But I agree, quiet is boring

If I were you i'd take the cats to a scrapyard, they'll give you cash for them, that'd get you the most money for them.

Also that dual snorkel since it would pull more air in will make the exhaust a tad louder as well.

Too bad the cats I have are aftermarket ones, the online recycling places won't take them and I don't think that a scrap yard in CA will take them. They're not worth much.

I saw an edelbrock dual snorkel air cleaner at pep boys the other day. I thought that would be cool, especially if I paint it that FoMoCo blue, and put the 460 sticker on it. I might get that when I get a new carb. I'll just have to check the hood clearance and make sure its not too tall.

Anyway, the Lincoln is in the upholstery shop today. I'm having them take off the vinyl top so that I can take it to the body shop to get the rust holes patched. Then I'll have them put a new top on. I just hope that the rust isn't too bad under the old top.

I'm planning on swapping a 1990 fuel-injected 460 with E4OD into my '78 Mark V. Classic lines with modern driveability and that crucial overdrive/lockup converter operation for better mileage.

Hope for the best...but it's incredible how bad those roofs can rust under the vinyl. I've seen pictures of roofs almost completely covered in pinholes!

Coming late to this one . . but man, that's beautiful!

If you do an intake swap, AND the EGR still works, might well be worthwhile to keep the EGR functionality. Doesn't hurt power, and will improve cruising fuel economy and allow for somewhat more aggressive timing at cruising as well.

Not that I'm sure fuel economy is going to be all that big a concern with this thing... but hey, any little bit!

Of course, this assumes that any newer intake you put on there isn't way more expensive for the "has the EGR provision" option....

                            5 is better than 4

One thing I really liked about no OD is, you didn't wait for kickdown. As I moved the petal up and down on the highway the car moved forward and back, nice.

If you're not going for originality would you consider leaving the vinyl top off? One less thing to worry about in the future and depending on how bad it is under there it might be cheaper to just clean it up and leave it hardtop rather than put a new one on.

Also post a vid, catless big blocks sound good

I'm tryin' to go for more of an original look, I have the correct hubcaps for it. I thought about leaving the vinyl off, but I really like the look of it.

The vinyl top was taken off a little while ago and unfortunately it was pretty bad. It had holes all along the rear window and along the sides. I'll get the pics up here soon. It's in the local Macco now and it should be done next Friday.
