My first Panther that made me love these cars!!!

This was my 1982 Lincoln Town Car.

I would have loved to find one of these early models to make the cobra out of. I just like the full bumper and the turn signals even better then the later ones. I think it brings a feeling of the 70s style to the car.

The poor thing must be gone by now. It served me well going to school from Ohio to Pa. every day for 2 years. By the time I sold it for $400 it was 14yrs old and rust holes you could put your hand in.

Very nice. Panthers are like a lot of cars in that they're generally prettier the earlier they are, at least for the boxes.

1984 Grand Marquis, 1998 Grand Marquis, 2004 Town Car, 1989 Town Car.
If I find pics of the others I'll scan them and post. Never thought about it that I have owned 5 of them.

When I was about 15 a my friend down the street's grandfather bought a 1985 Grand Marquis. That one got me wanting to drive them. He knew a dealer and got it in the $14,000s. First thing he did is take it home and painted the underside with orange bridge paint for rust proofing. Didn't look too bad since the car was tan. Before that he was driving a 61 or 62 Mercury. He swore by the paint and placing an oil can with a pin hole over the wheel wells so they drip over many months.

Did he drive his cars year-round?

Ha ha, thats so weird. My old man, when he bought our 81 marquis new, painted the underside with bridge paint too lol. Since he worked for a company that built steel gurders and such for bridges, the paint was pretty much free. I always thought my old man was the only one crazy enough to do that.

He drove the 60s Mercury here in the Ohio salt bath and was almost rust free. The '85 was more lucky because by that time he and his wife drove to and wintered in Florida. He got the new one to save gas, increase reliability, and so he could keep the old one nice.

^^^^^^^That's how it should be. Get a beater car for the everyday torture driving and have the weekend cruiser for the pleasure driving.
