    my plain 1981 ltd

Wasn't looking for a LTD when I bought this one. It just happened to be the the best car for the money that I could find at the time. Car was a one owner, 95,000 mile original that was parked in a garage since the early 2000's. The car was always garaged and it shows. There are only two small rust blisters in the drivers lower quarter panel. the cat is painted metallic cordavon(the maroonish brown color) with a vinyl top and maroon interior. The car has a 302v8,AOD,3.08 open rear end, and the wonderful VV carb.Everything works on the car except the clock and the FM on the AM/FM radio. The car is low optioned, with A/C, cruise, tilt wheel only. No power windows, locks,or seats.

So far, I've replaced the belts(original motorcraft), plugs(org. motorcraft)with Autolite platiums, cap, rotor, wires(org. motorcraft) with borg warner parts. Put in a new heater core.Had to cut the original shocks off and replaced them with Monroematics(for now).Put two new Goodyear Viva2's on the rear last week. Replaced the rear coils with cargo coils for a CS wagon. It's been a sweet running car so far. I average 19 mpg with mixed driving. Switched out the stock radio with a audiovox cassette player(damn near new,and it was free).

I guess next on the list will be sway bars, 15" wheels(stock with dog dish hubcaps) and dual exhaust.the VV carb works fine for now so I'll leave it.

Nice! You'll be messing with that car in no time LOL. It almost always happens that way.

              Nice!

I love Base Model LTD's. I have an '80 base model myself.

I'd recommend getting rid of the VV Carb, and Duraspark setup asap. In exchange for a 4bbl Carb and MSD setup. Your car will be much more reliable.

              GL with everything!

Well, not much new happening withe '81. Nothin broken.

I did get the wonderful experience of adjusting the tv rod.

Shift points are a little higher and feel more solid.
I'm glad I stuck to my rule #2 for cars. "Always buy a Chilton manual for that car"

Now I need to convince the girlfriend to let me buy the '82 2 door LTD from the local bone yard.
