My $600 1989 Lincoln Town Car Signature Series(Beverely)

May want to replace timing chain/gear since you are that far in. Are they original or have they been done??

i plan to do the following


replace water pump
replace hoses
replace thermostat
replace timing chain and gears
replace timing chain cover gasket.

i can do all that for just only $200.

Might as well do all of it. I got lucky that it was just my tstat housing leaking as the timing chain and intake gaskets.were replaced 2 .2 years ago.

no i dont i have a Explorer upper and lower but i plan to rebuild a jy explorer motor to replace the leaky lopo i have now. when i have the new motor in i will start rebuilding the lopo making it a exact copy of what i am going to put in the towny and save it for my future mark vi i plan to get to replace the cfi it will have.

Careful putting HD water pumps in these cars. The cooling system in my 88 has been just short of a nightmare. I replaced the water pump, hoses, clamps, rad, t-stat, basically everything except the fan clutch and heater core in fall 2007. In spring 2008 original heater core shit the bed and I haven't been able to keep the cooling system together for any more than 2 months (I store from November-May since fall 2008) while the car has been in use since. Just when I think I have it all straightened out, it goes and pops something else causing a BAD coolant leak AGAIN! I've had hose clamps straightened, thus blowing hoses off and spewing coolant everywhere, frost plugs popped out, block heater popped out, new hoses broken, not to mention I'm on my 3rd heater core since 2008). Last July when I popped the block heater out I lost all my coolant about 10 miles from home in 80+ degree weather, she got hot that time!
I bought the car in August 2006, never had a cooling system problem until I replaced the water pump in October 2007. Nothing but problems since!

my 88 came with the hd pump and thats what I replaced it with no problems yet. nfldfordltd hopefully you get your problems straightened because that seems very strange almost as strange as my random misfire at 65mph and faster.

HD pumps FTMFW. had one on my merc was great never failed.

SD pump on the 88... I swapped like for like... so far so good. been 3 years. Same on the Mark... been since a week after I got it.

thanks i really like the car alot and the color really gets my attention as i never seen this color before but the combo of that and the lighter titanium interior and vinyl top really make it stand out.

did more stuff today to the lincoln. got ford seat covers to cover up my ripped seat. replaced my coolant temp sensor since it threw a code 21 and the new one is in and it still throws a code 21 all wamed up too. what the heck is the problem. finished replacing my plastic yellowed headlights with sliverstars damn bright.

also cleaned the iac today with some brakleen and the car idles better now. it was before surging up and down to the point were the car almost died did stall twice though at idle in park because of it. so far the idle seems ok would still like to know how to get rid of that code 21.
