the stuff underneath is metal. Nothing to fail. Its only the bushing at the throttle body thats a problem.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

what a bad week. today the cars power steering pump shit the bed. right now working on replacing it with a junkyard unit. this car must have been sitting very long. the fricken power steering hose line is corroded onto the nut that is on the pump. gonna have to end up cutting the line and replacing it fuck. hopefully the thread that goes into the steering shaft comes off easily cause i dont want to be replacing that whole steering box. grrr. car is undrivable now.

the lines are always bad, and should never be recycled when the pump fails. The rubber turns to rock and it starts leaking at the crimps and often the parts seize together. Get a good set of line wrenches and spray some PB Blaster on the lines before trying to remove it from the pump. If you use shitty wrenches or not line wrenches, it will round off and you'll never get it apart. If you do not have a good wrench, just cut the line off right where it comes out of the steering box and use a 6 point socket on the nut to remove it.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

well got the junkyard unit on there and it was bad. but when i took off the one from my car i noticed with all the fluid out of it, it had the suction noise still to it. the empty junkyard one when spinning the pulley it didnt make that suction noise maybe my pump was fine and then i noticed something else 87 and up panthers used a plastic piece of shit pulleywell found out the middle of that pulley(the part you press onto the shaft) was spinning by it self while the outer was still so i said well that now this makes sense. if my belt was only spinning the pulley but not that piece of the pulley that the shaft goes onto that will explain why intermittent power steering. 86 and down used a metal pulley on the ps pump which was way better so what i am going to do is swap the metal pulley onto my old pump and see if it works. i have a hunch that it was the pulley failing that caused my power steering to be not working.

i believe they started plastic ps pulley's in 87 to present. i know 89 panthers had them.

will only be the power steering pulley that is plastic who knows maybe it started in 88 i know 89 cars have them for a fact or my pulley is not original though it is a ford part though.
