timing marks not in the right place (ballancer spin) and timing off?

after having to replace the dizzy on my brothers towncar as of recent, because the pip that i installed 3 months ago. i have come to relize something, dont trust new parts, cause they are simply "new". now when i hunt for an issue, i rule out nothing. check all components, new or old.

Yeah..interestingly enough. Moved the timing a ton counterclockwise. Suddenly, engine runs fine. Power's back, smooth idle, quiet, dependable, good on gas.

As for the cleveland, put diesel fuel down the cylinders and let it sit a couple days. Will post results after looking at the engine tomorrow.

Also, pictures! Sorry for the delay.

Cleveland? Is this going into the LTD-S? Sounds like an interesting project if that's where it's heading. I have been noticing an emerging aftermarket for that engine in the passed year. TrickFlow makes heads and a lower intake for that engine. Looks like you could put the R-series EFI on top of the lower and have an interesting little project.

Like the pics, looks like a lot of exterior rust hopefully the internal parts are all right! If the timing mark was off that far...could the timing gear be beginning to strip? Or am i mixing up valve timing and ignition timing here?

If you can pull off the cleaveland swap your car will be one of a kind for sure!

Hopefully the internals will be okay..we will soon find out. A rebuild is ready for it, probably a set of TFS PowerPort heads will make that little Cleveland wake up!

As for the merc, she's got a little detonation on load, but not as much. She's smooth right now, and don't mess with success haha.

The Cleveland swap in the LTD should be a good one if we can pull it off, and we've got the know how on how to do it. Will keep you guys posted.

Progress! Got home from college, starting tearing into it. Wouldn't idle correctly, was trying to diagnose the VV carburetor. Eventually said screw it, cleaned up and freed up the VV that came with it, that and a set of plugs makes it run like a champ. dunno.

Also, got to doing more work on the body today. Pics:

More progress to come soon. Tomorrow I'll be grinding away on it for most of the day.

Yeesh, between college and life happening, it's been a while since I've worked on this ol' gal. Been slowly derusting all the places where I left off. I'm wanting to do quite a bit of work to it, but don't really have a place to do it all.
