I built a 94 Escort LX into a dirt track car in high school, it was a 2 door hatchback but the same 1.9L/slushbox and after cleaning out the engine, gutting the car down to nothing but a metal shell, taking off the cat/muffler and adding an intake, the car wasn't too bad. Then a kid brings in his 2 door Escort GT 5spd, and in full weight it blew the doors off the dirt track car. But still not a bad little car, it took a lot of abuse and ran like a champ and the rust wasn't bad at all, unlike the 80's Accord we also built that was rusted to nothing.

Picked up a set of Escort ZX2 wheels a while back. Purchased a set of Hankook Optimo h727 185/60/R15 tires to throw on them. The wheels were dirty and dull looking. I cleaned them up with simple green and a stiff bristle brush on the face of the wheel and cleaned the back side with a brillo pad yesterday.

Today I managed to compound, polish and wax the wheels. OMG they came out great. Looks like they were just painted. Amazing what some elbow grease can do for you. Gonna install the new valve stems tomorrow. Maybe get the tires mounted this weekend. Still have to purchase a nice Mcguard lug nut set.

Great looking! Easily the cleanest 1.9L engine bay i have ever seen, actually, possibly the entire car actually (as far as escorts of that year go)....those wheels will really help the look of your car too. Can't wait to see it with them on!

                    Thanks Guys!

Installed the valve stems yesterday. Just waiting to mount the tires onto the wheels and have them balanced.

                    And Gabe,

Naw. My dad said NO MORE WHEELS!!! Once the swap happens they will be tossed. If you are still looking for them you can have them Gabe. I just cannot hold on to them forever waiting though.

edit- nvm, yesss i can read, lmao.

i think a saturn vue mirror looks exactly the same but it has a temperature display also. if anyones at a yard with one, grab it. you can use a temp sensor from pretty much anything, fwiw.
Its really that easy to hook one of the compass mirrors up?

The hardest part for you would be bending some tabs as well as drilling and tapping the mounting bracket to accept the allen headed set screw so you can secure the mirror to your windshield. Only thing else to do would be notching the forward most headliner trim to accept the wire conduit and then routing the wires over towards the a pillar trims and tapping one into a keyed power as well as a ground. And if you want to get real fancy you can tap into the reverse circuit so the mirror will clear when ever you are in reverse so you can see out of it...
