Some of my friends actually thought that when I was in ICU in the Hospital for 5 days after I was admitted 2 weeks before that 2 days before Thanksgiving, then on a regular floor's private room until Jan 6th 2011, that I just HAD to suffer some kind of mild brain damage! LMAO! Why? Because I traded DOWN, from my 05 Chrysler Sebring GTC ragtop for my 87 63,000 documented highway only miles near showroom condition Ford Crown Vic Wagon. It also has the EFI 302, 4SP Auto OD with LONG legs good for 24 MPG @ 65! It WAS NOT a "spur of the moment thing, I spent ALL summer looking for an all steel, body on frame, rear wheel dr. V8, that a Class One receiver hitch could be mounted for hauling Motorcycles I buy to restore for a "profitable Hobby" The only "issue" I have had so far, that I got a speeding ticket for (it was thrown out of court) was when I was test driving it, I was not aware that instead of the standard 215/75R-15 tires, it had "LT 245/80R-15 tires, which are 4X4 truck 6 ply tires! they put my speedo 12MPH slower than I was REALLY going! In addition to the receiver hitch, I also had a 3 gauge pack mechanical gauge set installed as well (you won't believe this, but there was NOT EVEN an oil pressure idiot light!) the pack has mechanical oil pressure/water temp/volt gauge. OK, it's a 4000LB+
car with a small 302, LONG LEGS, and a .8/1 overdrive top gear, with a SOFT cruise.
that means that when one hits a long gradual upgrade, it will not downshift in cruise mode, and keep slowing till she is lugging @ 25MPH! I either have to put my foot into it, or just pull the lever down into drive. That is my ONLY complaint! The ride, and shear comfort with ROOM to stretch out, even in the second row, are un-equaled, and the view over that LONG,LONG hood is almost regal! Here is where my sanity has
been questioned. You see, the wagon, in the NADA yellow book on vehicle values,
(all financial institutions in the northern Rockies use that guide ,Nation Auto Dealers Association), booked, due to only having 1/3 normal miles, with only 10% normal wear
was worth $3800, and my Sebring GTC Convertible w/65,000 miles, thanks to the way
Motor Trend blasted it, had fallen from $32,000 to $7500!, and the dealer needing to
make a "fair profit" gave me the wagon and $3200 cash. OK, so now, HOW I found this rare gem, and why I went from a "cool car" that women loved, to a 24 year old
wagon that 50+ year old men are ALWAYS, every time I stop give me compliments on
just how nice it has been kept! AND, I have since discovered yet another major plus,
and that is, I always carry 3 sleeping bags with 2 pillows, put down all but the front row, and have my 6 foot bed ready to go! I did test her ability to do what I bought her for, I hooked up my friends 10 foot long by 5.5 feet 2 axle wide light trailer with
an 82 FULL DRESS 7500LB KZ1100 motorcycle on it, and pulled it almost to North Dakota before a blizzard stopped me, then we turned back, and I sold it on craigs list 4 days later, and then hauled it to Billings to a real nice guy that bought her even though it had a real bad electrical short in, so I can now spend that money I got restoring my other project I am working on, and taking step by step pics of her, my
perfect mechanically, rough paint/metal polish, full dress GS1100GK. For pics of some of my work, go here: http://s481.photobucket.com/albums/rr176/montanaghost/
