Seriously though - The cinder block is part of the reason I bought the car. Windshield was intact up until halloween and I think it was the straw that broke the camels back, the owner just got sick of it - and the neighbors got sick of looking at it. I'll find a use for the cinderblock, I'll probably use it as a doorstop or something

Oh, and AFAIK it was just some kids that put the cinderblock through there. First it was a cinderblock and then they threw a pumpkin from my friends step through the cinderblock vent window. Got the pumpkin out of there ASAP but the cinderblock isn't gonna rot

it actually looks like a healthy car. make sure you soak it in oil when it gets on the road. are your connections good? do the lights dim when you try to crank the engine over? is it clicking/clunking when cranking it over?

connections are all pretty good. the only noise it makes is when i cycle the key on and off and i hear the relays on the drivers fender (ac, fuel pump, eec) clicking. fuel pump one wasn't clicking but i replaced it and still the same problem.

the lights dim *slightly* when i try to crank it, just like a normal car, but they don't dim too much - almost as if it's not sending full power thru the starter relay. battery voltage is fine and the car will run all of the accessories (it ran the compressor for the air springs without batting an eye)

it's not budging the starter solenoid or the starter motor obviously

that car has 2 solinoids. one on the fender, one on the starter. due to sitting and making your car reliable, i would replace both. but for the time being, get a buddy to help turn over the key and use your test light to verify you got power to the trigger wires. its possible the little trigger wire on the starter has rotted off or is dirty

I think it's only got the starter-mounted solenoid because the fender is pretty bare. If it was there I would've tried jumping it with a screwdriver or something...this is the first Aero engine bay I've looked in - I could have missed it, but in the spot where it is in my 1990, the underhood fuse block is sitting.

Though RockAuto has a listing for a fender mounted solenoid that looks just like the one in my 90

its got 2. the one on the fender is reffered as a "slave solenoid". i replace alot of em on boats. its easy to figure if its the slave, it shoud make a click sound as you try to crank the starter.

I'm pretty sure there's just the one on the starter. At least that's how my 92 is. Then again, my 92 has the old 2 bolt starter, not the pain-in-the-ass 3 bolt starter like 92.5+ have.

We had an 07 Towncar limo at work that had a fender mounted solenoid.

Limos got solenoids for battery/charging switching purposes... I've never seen a fender solenoid on an aero/whale...

can you jump a starter mounted solenoid like a fender mounted one? just want to eliminate that as the no-crank problem. we tried the BFG method like an old style one but if it's not getting power from the solenoid then there's not much point in mashing on it
