physics says 2 shocks are better. there is less twisting on the hood too with two shocks

cost of production my friend. its all about producing a vehicle at minimal cost. thats why todays cars look appealing but, are total shit.

Honestly, the one shock doesn't exert enough force to twist the hood on opening or closing, I've watched it in action several times to confirm this. The entire hoods weight rides on the Hinge Pins at the rear of the hinge when open, the shock exerts just enough force to hold up the hood once its at the top of its travel range. Having 2 shocks would have the advantage of holding the hood up much firmer, and me not having to worry about it coming down onto my head during a wind gust, which is a plus.
I know that the PS hinge from a Towncar is a direct swap, but because of the length of it vs the stock PS piece, you have to remove the small molded foam piece that sits on the weatherstripping rail, to the front left of the cowl vent. The piece that keeps tree debris that is in the cowl, from falling or being washed into the engine bay. I test fitted a PS hinge I already have here, and the piece will have to be removed. Not sure I wanna remove it. I would like to keep the car as stock as possible, so I may just keep the one shock setup.

I've never seen something with just one hood shock. Must be a light hood!
The lack of a shock on the other side doesn't mean much, because there still has to be some kind of hinge or soemthing to support the hood on that side.
The fact that there is no shock on that side does mean that the weight of the hood creates a moment (in 2 directions) about the area where the shock is mounted on the opposite side. Without a picture, I can't really say more.
If you can't see the hood deflecting, then it isn't an issue.**2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302: 5.0/ 6 spd/ 3.73s, 20K Cruiser

Yea, no deflection that I can detect with my senses.
I'm starting to think now that I may have to change it out for the PS Towncar piece anyway, as the hood not being firmly supported could end up being a safety issue for people when I take the car to auto shows and such. Would only take one stiff gust of wind, and the hood comes down. If someones fingers where in the jamb area when that happened, they would be broken.
Since the hood will be raised 95% of the time I'm at a show, I am now thinking that this will be the right way to go. Maybe I can extend the stock engine bay/cowl weatherstripping piece, to take up the extra space where the molded foam rubber piece would have sat, so it still looks factory.

To crap on the idea that it would have 2 shocks if it needed them: the 86+ Towncars all have aluminum hoods. They also have 2 hood shocks. There are different shocks for steel vs aluminum hood though, perhaps in the early days there was one shock part number, and you got one or two depending on the hood material. I do find it interesting that the Mark VI had an aluminum hood, but the Towncar had steel back then. Its the same hood.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

This is a pic of the 1st car to give up parts to this car. The '86 Towncar that I got the PS Hood Hinge (that will be going on this car) from awhile back.
Thought I'd post this because I felt really sorry for this Linc, as I could tell that it was in awesome shape before it got to the junkyard, and the idiots in there beat the hell out of it for fun, and tore apart the interior. You can see an immaculate condition light blue door panel someone had just thrown onto the ground, in the bottom left of the pic. The rest of the mint interior was filled with random pieces of nasty scrap metal. The hood was already gone, so it was easy to take the Hinges. May she RIP.
Probably gonna go back soon and pull a nice and straight minty Core Support, for my car. I called my connection at the junkyard yesterday, and he said that they have at least 5 Box Body Towncars there right now, so I'm gonna try and get out there soon.
