Yea mang, I will get some pics of it for you from different angles, as well as the way it mounts onto the door. I suppose during the times of driving in heavy rain, it would help to keep water from being slung up past it, and getting into the car through the leaky bottom weather stripping. I'm not sure what other purpose it would serve. In my experience, most all of the high speed wind noise on these cars comes through the top parts of the door. I know pretty much all newer cars have that piece now, so it must serve a good purpose. I'll post those pics up soon.

Gotta love ford's habit of making some awesome parts for these cars, and then discontinuing them after only a short run. The '86 dual heater pipes were a perfect example of that, lol.

Oh yea, just wait, lol. I decided to not waste my time on trying to get the stock engine running again. I'm not gonna divulge my plans until they have happened though. I'm saving up my money right now, and making plans. The new engine will be getting dropped in at my buddy's shop in March of next year. He is gonna pick up the car for me with his trailer, haul it to his fully loaded shop, and we are gonna do all the work there together. He is one of the few people I would ever trust enough to let work on one of my cars. All I will say is that the engine will be a 351W. Can't wait to get to ride this beauty.

The lower weatherstripping went away whenever they changed the sillplates to the one piece design. They still existed in 83, but I know its gone by 86. The lower seal doesn't work with the later style one-piece sillplate either. Fords kept the individual plates though, so it can probably be made to work, though I wonder how much good they actually do. Agreed on most of the noise coming through the front or top of the door, not the bottom.

          Interior Progress

Rust? It's not allowed to exist on any of my vehicles. When it try's to, I track it down and take it outta the game. You could say that I'm a Nemesis of rust. It was Sandblasted 100% clean, Converted/Etched, and then sealed up permanently with the unbeatable awesomeness that is Por15. After it cures I will seal up the body plugs as well, so no more water can get in whatsoever. This rust won't be coming back.

I will Por15 the entire floor, once I get ready to lay down the Dynamat Extreme sheets. I was only concerned with eliminating the rust for now. Anyone else out there notice how the floors of this car don't have sound deadening on the rear sections of floorpan? Strange.... Maybe the factory felt like the hellaciously thick jute mat under the carpet was enough, and maybe it was to someone who is not such a perfectionist, lol.

Nothing more left to fix in the interior, everything works, and there is no more rust, so the next step is just to detail and re-install the remaining trim pieces and seats, and then move on. Which will be more easily said than done right now, as I have almost zero free time, thanks to work, the 5:30 pm sunset time.

          More to come soon!

Thanks. Check out their website, they have some truly great products. Their Marine Clean is the best degreaser I have ever used, beating purple power hands down. You should see how clean and grease free this cars undercarriage and engine bay are now, thanks to it. They have mixed six packs of Por15 for only $50 as well, which is a helluva deal.

Yea, kind of odd considering even the Vic's had tar mats back there. I'm glad it is non-existent in this car though, saves me the extreme PITA work of having to remove it.

Thanks Gabe. Thankfully this car has only about 1/10th of the rust my old Vic had, so I don't have much rust to repair. That is always a great thing.

my 88 has some white plastic wrapped padding under the carpet... tar on the firewall... big ass thick rubber mat behind the rear seat... the Mark has some brownish carpet padding under the carpet. No tar. and no thick black rubber mat behind the rear seat IIRC. It's actually pretty sparse for sound deadening inside which is strange considering how quiet it rides. (quiet being relative to the exhaust on the thing)

Yeah, same here with my '87 Merc. Those white plastic wrapped mats under the carpet where for soaking up moisture I think, I always pull those out myself, as they are usually soaked and nasty, and helping to rot out the floorpans.

I think the Lincoln boxes rode quieter anyway because of the thicker/higher quality sheetmetal that they used to make the cars body. Even with all the sound deadening efforts I have done so far on my Merc, it still doesn't feel as solid as my Linc, in any way shape or form. Can't wait to see how much better it can get from here!

                            Car Title in Hand!

Finally got the slack-ass DMV inspector out here to inspect the car yesterday, and I got my official North Carolina title for the car today! The car is now officially mine!

I've actually wanted one of these cars since I was a kid and use to see some of them driving around town, and now I finally have one! This is probably my favorite car that I have ever owned already, and I haven't even driven it yet. My Merc is jealous right now, lol.
