I wasn't disagreeing with you guys that this car was once EEC-III, because it definitely was at some point, all the stuff is still there, even the ECM harness going inside the same place on the firewall that the 86-91 EFI 302 ECM Harness does. I was just saying that the car does in fact have a 351W currently, not sure if it is factory or not. A quick vin check would reveal if this was a factory 351 car or not.

      Here is the proof.

Raised Deck Height. On a 302 the deck height is even with the base of the distributor . On a 351 the deck height is about .5 above the base of the distributor. Tis an easy way to spot a 351w in the junkyard without taking it apart.

This gives it away every time for sure though.

these cars came with EECIII but, alot then were retro fitted with a VV or 2150 carb and duraspark since, the first EECIII systems had issues. this is what i was told when i got my 1980 mark years ago. i could not understand why i had a ECM in the car for the longest time.

            Slowly.

Currently just jumping through DMV hoops, and paying fees. Had to pay a $100 for an indemnity bond the other day, which they get to keep regardless of what happens. After all that is done, then the DMV inspector will be out in 2-4 weeks to inspect the car in person. If all is good, I get an inoperable title, since the engine doesn't run yet. Which is fine with me because I just want the car to be in my name and legally mine. Once I get her running, I will call him back out to inspect the car again, and then I will get a regular title for the car. I don't have to pay anything the 2nd time when getting the regular title thankfully.

I wouldn't have been willing to go to this much trouble for very many cars on this earth, this just happens to be one of them that I would.

if i had to use one word to describe this car it would be survivor.

im sure all but maybe one of the cars she came down the line with the day she was assembled are long gone by now.

              then you saved her.

they way i understood it is that its the same title, it just needs an inspection onced its running to be finalized.

Yea, same title, just says "Inoperable" on it. It just keeps the car from being able to be tagged, until it is fully operational, and then inspected a final time for safety. It's all just one big money making scheme anyway. I just go through the motions and line their pockets, because I want the car to be legally mine.

I was thinking the exact same thing the other day. She must have been made fairly early in the production run as well, the door jamb sticker has a 10/79 build date. This car must have been one of the few destined from it's very beginning to make it in the long run. I'd bet that the majority of these cars were scrapped in the 90's, and are actually pretty rare by now, especially the 2-doors.

She somehow went through all the correct channels to make it to me, so her salvation is now assured. Wish I had more time right now to start working on her, soon though. I am itching to get out there and get started.

I bet those 2dr specific belts are hard to find. I'll keep an eye out for ya in the yards, anyway. You need Red or White?

thats because you can't put a 302 efi system on a 351 without a tune and expect it to run right. Same thing happens if you stick a 302 carb on top of a 351. It might run, but it wont be optimal. Theres not really any reason CFI couldn't work on a 351, but the ECM would need to be programmed to give it enough fuel to run right.

A quick VIN check the other day revealed that this is indeed an original 351 car. The current block is original to the car as well. The CFI system looks to be 100% factory, right down to the stamped hole in the firewall where the ECM is coming through. So, obviously there were CFI 351's on 80-81 Mark VI's.

I wonder if the CFI ECM in this car is 351 specific, if so it might be worth hanging onto, for someone in the future wanting to do a 100% factory resto on one of these.

All that crap is getting taken out of there anyway, and a clean carb setup installed.
