I'm loving my new ride! Night and day. Crappy tires FTL.

Now, my low fuel light likes to stay on. Any ideas?

if the gauge is also on E all the time... may need a new float and/or sending unit or to find the ground wire for the sending unit and bolt it back down.

Gotta be, thanks! The fuel gauge still works.

A search turned up this info by the mighty Thain:

I'll clean up those contacts this weekend.

It worked! I am the proud owner of a fully functional low fuel light Thanks.

The bit of warmer weather we're getting has me planning for the next big round of maintenence. First I think a thorough detail inside. Then, trans filter (should've done this already), then timing chain with WP/ harmonic/ fan clutch (I can feel that chain getting worse), then re-install the intake with new vac lines, then the heater core/ blend door/ speedo cable & gears. Gotta start gathering parts.

Then I'll plan the second weekend lol.

                    I thought about it

I had a (almost) drag race the other day. Sitting at a light, I hear the old 'vroom vroom' from the car next to me (I'm thinking, are they KIDDING? ).

I look up, it's a 90s Cherokee. Kids. Roll down the window, I say, really? Passenger says sure, I do this all the time. It's a long light, he tells me he's got a FI straight six and a stick, he asks what I've got in there. I tell him 302, but the lo po and start explaining it to him. Light turns green, I got that bastid on the drop! Up to 35 or so, a car pulls out in front of me a little and that's that. I was still ahead 2-3 feet or thereabouts, about the distance I got on the drop.

I'm guessing it's the dual exhaust, slight exhaust leak and slight rough idle that sucked him in. Getting him off the line was sweet though, last I dragged (my 97 vs a mild 305 late 80s camaro) I lost on the drop, gap didn't move though past 75.

I used to love smoking ricers in the hood with the 97

Btw, reading that, I wanted to mention that I'm guessing say 4 out of 5 'ricers' down in the city are mostly cosmetic. So a few times I did get beat. Once a civic blew by me like I was standing still.

                        Comment

                          It's sooo worth it

Got all the stereo upgrade wiring in. I started this:

to get an idea about speaker placement. Now on to rigging amp wiring in the trunk.

1st I got a 2 maxi fuse 'distribution block'. Snipping my main headlight power cable, I installed the block on the radiator brace behind the passenger headlight area, ran the main power to it, used one of the maxi fuse slots for the headlights (relief!). (I had previously ran a 8 gauge wire from the battery, ziptying it to the existing harness that ran under the header panel over to the drivers inside fender where I mounted the headlight relays).

I then ran another 8 gauge wire from the second fuse slot, again following the harness under the header panel, over the drivers inside fender to teh firewall. At the firewall there was a large plug going through already, and it had a hole in the grommet

Push the wire through and it comes into the drivers' footwell above the emergency brake petal. Score!

Pulled the drivers side doorsill trim and there was the wire channel as mentioned. Pull the cardboard cover off and stuff both the power line and the little wire for a remote amp trigger from the head unit.

I had previously got my hands on a 12' 5 line RCA jack wire, the 5 lines flat so 1 line thick but 5 wide, used for component AV systems. So I have front l/r, rear l/r, and a spare line for future sub use if I feel like it.

I knew 12 feet would be tight and it was. From the radio to the drivers kickpanel, down to the channel, it perfectly smushed in like it was made to cover it. Lucky again.

And it was JUST long enough to stick out into the trunk an inch or two. All this good luck, I'll be afraid to touch the car again!

Seriously, if I had to buy rcas for the job I'd want 18', then one wouldn't need to used additional cables in the truck. But the main lines are there!

I had ran twin speaker cables down the passenger side previously. For the ground, there is a screw with a star washer on the drivers side trunk hinge bracket that worked perfectly, ran a 10 gauge wire over to the pass side trunk shelf.

Now for the big, um, something - the amps worked! One for the front speaks and one for the back. Ballin'...

The funny thing though, they're just little NOS 15 watt RMS per channel low grade Teacs lol. Maybe 4" x 6".

I only did it for fun and sound quality though, not any kind of SPL competition, my aging ears can't take that kind of stuff. Did it matter?

Well yes. But. The sound is a bit clearer and I don't have to turn up the volume quite as much to get listenable levels at speed. The but is, it really didn't do THAT much, and it still sounds a bit bright.

The even bigger but (the fat lady is about to sing), the wiring is in and heavier duty than I'll ever need. So when I have the cash and desire for different amps, it's a quick swap, in and out. I can add a sub too if I ever want to roll out.

All I need to do now is neaten up the wires in the trunk & screw the amps down, put the tweeters under the dash in their factory locations & reinstall the dash (they're on top of a loose dash right now), take a little time to get the woofers to fit right in the doors (so close, I think a bit of grinding and they'll install neatly), straighten up the front speaker wiring & screw the crossovers in place behind the glovebox, and tighten down the head unit & install the dash trim. But that's it

                          Whoa, I'm longwinded this AM.

lol. I think I used 18 foot rca's for my car and have a couple feet of slack in the trunk. Did you tune amps? Adjust the gain and whatnot? When I first installed an amp in my car I never touched the gain buttons...volume all the way up and the speakers were barely working. Glad I figured that out as now I can blow my eardrums out.

I had an almost drag race with a modern civic (I think it was an EX - whatever the nice looking one is that's the intermediate model) today. He got the reaction to the light... my low end torque passed him by the other side of the intersection and stayed ahead until I totally let off approaching the speed limit. I was only ahead by my fender... but I was still ahead with my whipped lopo.

                                I laughed.
