    TL's 1986 Mustang GT ***DUW***

I miss the thing. I bought it to get me around until I fixed the POS after I blew the trans in it. 1986 Mustang GT AOD white on porno red. It came with a Saleen body kit and Flowmaster American Thunder cat back exhaust. Everything else was stock. I got it 3rd hand. Originally owned by a lady in Phoenix, and then brought up to the NW Chicago suburbs. Low miles, about 60k when I got it, but neglected. $700 cash. The first week I had it I did the following:

    Threw the dash rug out.
Pulled the purple bubbled window tint off.
    Four new headlights.
    Changed all the fluids.
New plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel and air filters.
    New front rotors, pads.
    New t-stat.
    New battery and alternator.
    New CD head unit.
    New Michelin Arctic Alpin snows.

Drove it for a while, it ran strong and sounded good. Then one day I lent it to my Mom so that I could fix her car while she drove mine to work. She only made it a few miles. What you see is an offset frontal impact with a utility truck at low speeds.

The car was totaled. The engine and trans was sold to a landscaping company for $500 to put into one of their work trucks, and the tires went to a friend's T-Bird for $300. It sat in my garage for a few months after as I sold off what was left for a few more bucks. In the end, a local JY got the shell and the title for $80. I miss the thing.

Nifty that you have those pics, for better or for worse from the viewpoint of your own automotive memories. Did you have any shots from earlier in the vehicle's life? (though I'm assuming you would have posted them if you did ...)

Too bad it got wrecked; it looks like it was in pretty good shape. Oh well, such is life, I suppose.

I wish I had some pics of it from earlier. Just imagine it with the Saleen body kit falling off, and some hideous tint that had bubbled up and turned light purple. I do miss it. It was quick for what it was, and cost me very little to buy and fix up. I wrecked one of my Mom's cars pretty badly once, so I felt we were even after that one. I think my friends were more devastated than I was at the time. Everyone had '87 and up Fox Mustangs then, so having a somewhat clean 4-eyed Mustang around was nice.

I put a lot of effort into that thing to make it respectable and safe. I do miss it dearly. I was going to yank the engine/trans out of it and put it into the POS, but decided against it.
