I was thinking on putting one of those in my car to see if it retards oil consumption at all. Going to try Alex's suggestion of running 10W-30 first though.

The catch can won't limit your oil consumption, the PCV system will suck just as much of it as it does now. The can will however limit oil deposits down the intake and into the rear cylinders, as it will stop a lot of the oil from actually reaching the intake. So you'll still lose just as much oil as you did before, but now you can save some of it and dump it back in the crankcase. Standard practice for diesels with a road draft tube setup actually, some of them even got a hose from the catch can down to the oil pan - when the can gets full you just open the valve with the engine off and let oil drain back down where it came from, minimal actual loss that way. Just don't forget to close the valve before firing her up again, lolThe ones who accomplish true greatness, are the foolish who keep pressing onward.
The ones who accomplish nothing, are the wise who know when to quit.

Got the spindle apart, almost all is well. There is a thin shim washer used as a thrust bearing thats pretty well pooched though. Have to figure out the proper replacement for that. Its .010 thick, not 100% if steel or stainless, but it lives between two cast iron pieces. Looks like it ran a bit dry and the iron drug on it, trading a bit of metal in the process. The iron parts I can smooth out, but the washer is dicked.
Took one of the other plant's gearboxes apart. My hands still stink. What a foul POS. It came apart OK but the bearings are probably all gone, and the shafts need a lot of attention. Looks like they took a pipe wrench to the output shaft, they're pretty jacked up. I've gotten spoiled dealing with ours. I'll have to grab copies of the video set I made on how to rebuild those things and stick it on youtube. Its an interesting gearbox design, and dead simple to overhaul if its not all nasty.~David~

I noticed a large amount of oil in my intake, everytime I take the CAI off.__________________________________________________

Seems to drive very well! Any drivability problems? I didn't notice any. I know you say you don't like the sound of it...but I think it sounds great! I'd love to see a WOT freeway entrance run. You have a very similar setup to mine actually, which makes it even more interesting for me personally. Also, seeing your hood shine in the video is sex.
Also, your dad is such a dad in the beginning of the video :P-Phil

I call bullshit. This is old footage from 2014.
Was that a Mark VI I saw around 2:22 ?
Probably the offroad pipe is why it sounds like it does. I like cats. Quiets it down and makes things not smell bad.Last edited by gadget73; 05-20-2016, 11:13 PM.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).
