A day in the life of TL and the rented whale...

Had a friend dig up some pics of a trip to Florida, circa 2002. We had a 2001 or 2002 MGM pretty much loaded except moonroof. Went to a mall on opening day, and got stuck in the grass (mud). Then hit I-drive and then on to another friend's house. It was brutally hot and humid that week...

Reminds me of when I went mud-bogging with my 91Crown Vic in Sauble beach at the White Sands campground... Loads of fun

We were flagged into it to park. I was one lane over from terra firma. Once I saw the water under the grass, I got on the throttle but the damn traction control bogged the car down. No chance of getting out of that one. If it were just a smaller spot, I would have been okay. Heck, even the tow truck got stuck and had another stop by to pull it out. Even with the T/C off, it would have been close. In other pics I didn't post you can see three SUVs stuck near me even though we waved them off.

I got the 2-door Blazer out while my buddy flirted with the driver, but the other two were too far in.

Was there no way to turn the traction control off?

It was a split-second thing, as it came up fast. I forgot about the damn TCS when I saw the wet grass, and went for it (If I tried to stop before the muck I would have gotten the rental rear-ended hardcore). I remember furiously stabbing the button to disable it as the engine fought the brakes. Seemed as if you had to be off the gas for the TCS to kick off. My friend and I made the most of this and had fun. My womang did not seem to like me extracting her from the car over my shoulder and carrying her to safe ground.
