Glad you liked them. Those pics were taken from a moving car, so I'm surprised the P&S camera did that well.

As I said earlier somewhere, I had my kids in the car, so no burnouts. At this time, it would take a 6k+ clutch drop to produce wheelspin, so it might not happen later. The car seems to produce driveline-killing axle tramp/tire hop so it might not be a good idea to try a high RPM clutch drop. I do need some tires on it so before I go to the tire place some illegal things might start to happen...

That sucks. My dad and I used to bicycle over to Munster Junction, especially around '87-'88. Had lots of fun there, and I'm having a very hard time finding a mini golf place I like as well. That was where I learned to break rear tires loose to get around corners faster; the karts weren't powerful enough to do it on their own, but in part since I was light at the time I could toss them into a corner and squeeze past most everyone else.

By the way, loved the clip of Michael doing my stunt of doing a Mark VIII brake-stand right in front of a cop. I held my breath even just watching the video!

That wasn't the first time he had done that in front of a cop that night. The first one was WOT for about 20-30 seconds. Lucky bastard, isn't he?

Totally! With my luck, he really is just that lucky and could do that in front of the same cop who nailed me with a Careless Driving charge and not get hassled. :p

            *UPDATE*

Went to an 8AM appointment with the dealer down the street from my house, TSBs in hand. This is what happened:

-Holes in floormat. Deemed "normal" by them as all Fusions do it. There's a TSB out, 06-18-14, for abnormal, premature wear. They quoted me $100 something for new mats. WTF?

-Wind noise in both front doors at B pillar. The tech can hear it, but the service manager can't, and says again "they all do that". If you can't hear it, then how can you say they all do it? Again, there's a TSB for it, 07-13-6 B-Pillar/Window Run Seal Wind Noise.

-Both front seats creak/squeek. They did order a driver's side seat track for it, but not the passenger side, as it's not as bad yet. Why not take care of them both since they're obviously going to need it? Who cares if the driver's side is a lot worse than the passenger side? They both still need attention. Once again, TSB 07-13-9, Front Seats Squeak/Rattle.

-Engine knocking in upper head. Of course, the car was silent this morning. Damn fresh Mobil 1 5W20...

-Engine hesitation at any throttle change, RPM flair at lift-off, elevated revs at idle while rolling. This one they did acknowledge. The tech stalled it twice trying to back it out of it's spot, stalled it again once out of the spot, and then got someone else to drive it, who then stalled it pulling away, and then once again at the entrance to the garage door. I wish I had my camera on me. I was expecting them to say "It's normal" LOL. They were going to try a reflash, but then said OASIS was down. The said this was NOT normal. It's unknown when OASIS will be down, and they asked if I could leave the car for a few days. No loaner program, according to them, so I took it home. They are to call me when OASIS is back online.

Guess what? The car is now flawless at step-off, doesn't flare the revs at lift off anywhere near as bad, and also feels like it's gained about 40 more horsepower. For the first time on dry roads, the car spun it's tires in 1st gear from a clutch-out, rolling start, and actually seemed to pull hard enough to hurt my neck (I fell asleep at a bad angle on the couch last night). Last time I clocked the 0-60 I gave up after 12 seconds past by. It feels a lot closer to the claimed 7.5 seconds 0-60 by the car mags now.

            So, maybe the reflash worked?

Another minor annoyance is they didn't reprogram my radio and I lost all the presets. No real biggie for me, but I don't remember my Fiance's presets and I know she's gonna be pretty irked by it.

So, I called the dealer I purchased it from, an hour away, and told them about the local dealer. They said they could take care of it all easily, as it's all documented by Ford and they have done it for a lot of earlier Fusions.

Reminds me of the Chevy service manager who wanted to do about $800 worth of stuff after we brought it by for a recall service. He claimed the throttle body needed cleaning (negative, Captain, that one's brand new) and that certain unspecified control arm bushings were cracked, requiring replacement at some nonnegligible cost to myself.

Glad to hear the new turd is at least running better, though! Sounds like there are a lot of quality issues with the poor thing.

I am having far less issues than others on the Fusion forums, especially the automatic guys. The V6 models have had some engine/trans programming issues as well. Being a base "S" model I don't have a lot of the things Fusion folks are having problems with. These issues are really more annoying than anything else, save for the ECU programming, which has somehow been fixed even though the dealer says the reflash wasn't successful. Stacey drove it today after we went out for lunch, as my kids wanted me to sit in the back with them. It was funny seeing her try to relearn how to drive the thing.

On other news, the service bays were filled with new F-150s and F250s. Most of them still had temp tags, and were heavily disassembled. I can tell you one thing, Ford didn't go cheap on the trucks in regards to the frame, suspension, and drivetrain bits. Everything I saw appeared to be made twice as robust as needed. Of particular interest was a new crew cab F250 diesel, which had the whole top end of the motor removed. I didn't see the sequential turbos and intake anywhere, which would have been interesting to ogle. I was chased out pretty quickly from that particular truck for some reason.

They had a nice Shelby 500 KR in the showroom. $44k for this one, with just one option. The shifter was incredibly notchy, and had super-short throws. A nice car.

There was also a new Focus with SYNC (sp?) that I sat in for a while. I ended up programming my phone to it and even made a few Bluetooth calls right there in the car during my 3 hour wait. Having the dot-matrix info display on the top of the dash was nice. You probably wouldn't have to take your eyes off the road too far to see what's going on.

Going with an after market head unit would suck camel smegma, though.

I sat in a regular Shelby GT (the low model Shelby 4.6). It had a Hurst shifter in it that had an incredibly short throw. I thought it was locked up or something...

Yep, that's what this one felt like. However, I have been driving a manual Fusion so my perspective is obviously skewed.

Funny you mention a Shelby car ... I got a multimedia message on my cell phone yesterdayish of a Shelby at a dealer near where I used to work. I wrote my friend back and asked for the identity of the pictured cheap piece of junk. Not sure what variety of Shelby it was, though.

Imagine that in Silver with "Ebony" stripe (Ford's wording) and that's what I sat in. I find it weird that the rear ride height appears higher than a regular Mustang's. Oh, and the one today was not a "KR" as in Knight Rider LOL. Poor Capridrifter would have shat his pants on that one.

Glad you liked it. It was taking me everything I had to not bolt on a nice set of lightweight forged aluminum 18" wheels when it was time to go to the Tire Rack. It handles pretty good. The steering is very linear, with a little bit of feel. It got it's legs from the Mazda 6, the best handling family sedan in the class IMHO.

                              *Another update*

Even though the dealer said they didn't hear the wind leak at the doors, it appears that they did try to adjust the doors, and disregarded the TSB. Looks like they just tweaked the door frame. As in stick something between the door and the car, and then bend over the window frame. The door takes some force to close now, and at the top, it's too tight, and at the bottom, it's too loose. ARGH!!!

After the next appointment, I am going to resist taking the car to the dealer. I will fix it myself, even at my own personal cost. I am even going to try to buy the seat tracks to fix the squeaky seats as I don't trust the dealer. They'll probably scratch the hell out of all the interior plastic bits getting the seat out of the car, and will then get dirt and grime on the seat fabric due to the lube on the tracks, and dirt on the service bay floor.

Oh, and the Lincoln is pretty much sold, so the Fusion might be my new DD. Damn, I should have upgraded the tires/wheels!
