Congrats on your new ride man. I had an 85 that was 4x4 4 speed. I gave that thing hell. LOL. The funny thing is, I didn't do a thing to it. It started smoking there for a while and I think it didn't have any Valve cover gaskets either. LOL. Then the clutch started to get weaker, and I sold it for more than what I paid for it. That's the funny part. it was a fun vehicle though

it is!!
all the hardware came loose pretty easy... and a minimal amount of dirt/rust crap rained down on me.

So I tried to open up the plastic part to remover the pump motor, all the tabs crumbled apart when i applied enough force to open the tabs... I also think i crack the bottom a little removing the strainer...
So screw it! Im getting the whole shebang... the $150 i priced was just the plastic tank with no piping/tank flange, so I went up 20 more bucks for the whoooole thing.
In situations like this I simply ask myself if Id buy the truck again for $175 (the price of the pump)... and i say hell yeah! Ive gotten my $400 invested out of it...
I ought to be able to put the insert pump on eBay and get at least half my money back from it...

It runs again!! and nothing got blown up...

I wound up with a 'Carter' made-in-USA assembly that dropped right in - new gauge sender and all.
This one is a lot quieter too. At first i was worried I got a dud because I couldn't hear it prime, lol...
