      Shouldn't that car have been fuel injected if it is a '91?

        It's a 351W, not a 302. No EFI for us 351 guys.

            Sounds pretty small for the heads, and possibly the intake you're going to get. Nice P72, glad to see more of them popping up. How are your inner UCA bushings with 400k miles on them?

            5.8 = Carb
            5.0 = EFI

            1991 5.8 P72 was probably the last carbureted car sold in the U.S.

                oh, I was told by a fellow that races stangs an the like, told me that I could keep the 2.73's, and just shove alotta torque into the engine, and the gears would keep everything in the high rev range stable, an the HP an TQ would take care of the lower range stuff, any exp. on this?

                  Yes. Picture your rear end bearing caps on the ground behind your car. With lots of other various bits and diff fluid. Makes a horrible noise, too.

                    So an 2.73:1 8.8 locker with the appropriate housing reinforcements still won't handle big holeshots with a really small converter?

                      So...whats the best way to get oober torque, w/ no REAL mods (Boring cylinders, etc....) and IF I DO change the rears, will I need to re-calibrate the speedo?

                        Pick a cam with enough lift and fairly narrow duration like Crane's 364211 (kind of a flat-tappet version of my cam) and add a Performer 351 manifold (or mooch Nathan_in_MN's factory four-barrel manifold if you REALLY don't care about top end), 500cfm four-barrel carb, and small-tube headers. A set of BHP-ported heads would fatten the torque curve, though they'll shine more with a fatter cam and high-rev governor.

                          The rear had a lot of miles on it, and there was no rear-end girdle/bearing support. I did a brake-torque launch on hot, sticky R-compound tires. For the first time, the tires hooked hard. The rest was history. The car now sports a 3.27 out of a Town Car.

                          Our Panthers are heavy. A lot of torque and traction will lead to failed 8.8 bits. Not a bad idea to run a rear end girdle. Cheap insurance.

                            Okay, I'd forgotten about that story. Sounds like I might want to think about rearend reinforcement. Not that up to 350 lb-ft is really that much .....

                              Put a set of 69 Windsor heads on, that will give you 10.5:1 compression. My Car has a 69 Windsor and it runs fine on 87 octane gas.
