Looks a little better every time you have a new picture of her. Get that speedometer cable in yet?

Just so you know, if its running way too rich, it will wash the oil off the cylinders and cause them to wear oddly, then the rings won't seat properly.

Looking cleaner and cleaner. Hey, were your wipers running the last time you shut the car off, or are they always parked that high?

              Comment

they're always parked that high...they started doing that a long time ago...I replaced the motor with a brand new one from Advance Auto but they're still doing that...altho, now they wipe quick and smooth.
but its obviously an electrical problem...I'll have my uncle look into it when he has some time...maybe when I take it in to get the speedo cable hooked up.

its not really running rich, my budyd tuned real nice for me..idles nice and smooth drives nice as well.
he was telling me that I really should buy a new Carb but this one will do fine for now.

I think if I have my uncle repaint the bottom of the hood, I'll prolly just have him do it in the stock color...easier to clean...black will always look dirty...but a nice clear coated stock color would look nice to me.

that's pretty sweet...but too pricey for me...I'd look for something below 300 if I could.

Did Edelbrock fix the transition-area missing problem with the AVS carbs?

Did your buddy look at the spark plugs to see timing and fuel indicators? Did he adjust the idle speed screw to set the idle which is wrong. There are lots of stuff about carbs "experts" dont know. I know the jetting isnt right with those heads if the jets are factory ones your prob lean. Not meaning to put down your friend.

yeah, took me like two days and a set of new plugs to fix my SBC after one of that kind "tuned" the Holley - not to diss on yer buddy, but if he don't even know how to play with the fast idle (and he don't, leaning mixture out ain't no flow adjustment, period) I wouldn't trust him a whole lot on the important stuff.

no Dave, I dont think he didnt check the spark plugs...we kinda ran out of time.
but he did adjust the mixture screws on each side to get the idle smooth and then made sure that its Park/Neutral idle was 900 and the gear idle was 700...and since he adjusted it, its high idle doesnt get any higher than 1650...when it starts getting high, all I gotta do is pump it real quick and it idles at 1350.

after driving it and getting on it a little, he was telling me that he thinks the Float needs adjusting...but maybe it is the jets, like you said since it does seem to lean out once it reaches about 5K+...kinda surges just a bit...so I know its not pulling as hard as it should.

btw, here's my new chrome alternator from Summit. 100amps

I wish I could do something to make the PS pump look nice...I cleaned it with Simple Green, but its finish is dull and dirty.

Colin, float adjustment on yer carb is a piece of cake - you (should) have sight plugs on the sides of the fuel bowl, and float is adjusted by lossening the 5/8" nut and turning the flat screw on top of the bowls - look up Holley's site, theh have the PDF manual for that. Mine has to be disassemble to do float adjustments, so I don't know the procedure about yer carb well enough to post it here.
