Fairlane

Made a small amount of progress with the fairlane in the last week. Finished painting the steelies and got them all back on the car, adjusted the column shift linkage and neutral safety switch, de-flowmasterized the trunk of its ugly sticker, and spent too much time wandering on the hamb looking for ideas. I dropped off the 351 block, crank, and rods for machine work as well. Next up is cutting the front coils by one coil, and then modifying the rear to match for a look similar to this early falcon wagon, whose owner just happens to live right down the road from me in maryland.

that is sweet.....i had a 68 torino 4 door when i was in high school....289 powered....67 production.......i would put 16" wheels on it and get the rear springs rearched

The rear springs are lookin pretty weak as-is. The previous owner has helper leafs on there and small coils around the shocks.

Looks great! I love the body colored wheels...needs some dog dishes, though.

I've been trying to find a good set of these ones but they're either beat to shit or the auction jumps up to some obscene amount right near the end.

Looks good without wheel covers, keep the steelies bare. I like it, just needs some new rear springs and two tailpipes instead of one.

Scott, what do the cougar caps look like? I'm still diggin the dog dish but I'd paint-o-shop them on there and see how they look.

It is as just good underneath - I can't find a single spot of rust on the car and thats why I bought it the night I looked at it.

I am going to lower the front first and see how it looks with the back as-is.

Lookin' Good mang. I say cut the front coils, leave the rear alone. Rears sag like heck on these cars with original springs. You need some GT wheels.

We have a few of these in the family. First is a '69 Fairlane 500 Fastback, 302-2V, 3-Tree. My grandparents are the original owner. It is light blue. Second is a '68 Torino Fastback GT, 302-4V, C4. It is owned by my uncle. It's got that serious rake with 15X10 Cragar SS's on the rear and reversed 15X6 on the front (a little dated, still running bias-plies). Then third is my neighbor's '68 Torino 2-Dr formal roof. She has had it since new as well. It's 302-2V, C4, dark red with dark red interior. It's a wierd little car, it has the Fairlane trim on the sides, but Torino emblems.

The rear doesn't have to sag with heavy duty shocks/springs. The small coils around the shocks sounds like a cool idea, and I also like the idea of adding another leaf spring to each side.
