He still paid money to have them modified. I'd be kicking the dude's ass.

Here's the thing, though--the guy that modified them test fitted them on his car. A '91. Colin's car is an '88, and while I'm not sure exactly what all the differences are between '79-'89 and '90-'91, I do know that there are some slight differences in the floorpans. Couldn't that potentially cause the issue?

yea, Mike...thats exactly what my uncle said...I think they can still be modded to fit...there's a local exhaust shop right near my uncle's shop...they do good work for good prices..they did bobert's exhaust setup(duals, all new piping, Hpipe and mufflers provided by customer) for $275...thats slightly less then what mine cost($293).
if they want anything north of $100-120 to mod that one side, I'll sell these headers to someone with a 90-91 and buy Summit's 1 5/8" shorties.
oh yea, midwestLTD, it is Gunmetal metallic with clearcoat.sigpic

Sounds like a good option. I'd still thow a ministarter on there to minimize fitment issues, though - unless of course the further header mods to fit around a normal starter would be less than a ministarter would cost. :p Good luck!2012 Mazda5 Touring | Finally working on the LTD again!

I can't guarantee it'd fix the issue entirely, but if your situation looks like mine did, it should at least help. Mine looked like it would have still touched the framerail even with a smaller starter, and may even have still needed some clearancing around the starter itself, but since I just tried to shove it in there after reinstalling my stock starter, I can't be certain. I don't suppose someone near there has an extra small starter you could play with?2012 Mazda5 Touring | Finally working on the LTD again!

From what you told me, though, it sounded like the starter wasn't what was in the way.
You know, if you got a 5 speed, you could just park on hills and start it like that. No starter=no problems.
