Why would you have to go with EFI for E85? Just jet the carb richer.

wow! now thats what I'm talkin about, an unusual engine build. Everyone and their sister builds 302 or 351 based motors. A blown 300 is cool as hell. Personally I'd have one bored just enough to make it a 302 and watch people make confused faces when you tell them its a 302

If I run a carb, I want to run it in a draw thru setup (carb on top of the blower ). The E85 is not good to run thru the Eaton supercharger. Plus if the aluminum carb isn't hard anodized the E85 will corrode the carb. I'm still working on this.

I like being different! I like having it be a 300. That way I can whoop on the 5.0L guys with a smaller engine!! And if I started telling people it was a 302 6 cylinder they would think it's the old gmc 302 6.:nonono:

Oh, interesting...I didn't know that. I knew the E85 was hard on rubber stuff, but not aluminum.

Well Since my last post I haven't got a lot done. I picked up another frame to use for parts to fix the frame on my 54. I was hoping I could just use the "new" frame to save some time but the rear of the frame was hit hard and isn't worth fixing. But all the crossmembers that are butchered on my 54's frame are good on the new frame. And I'll also be using some of the spring hangers off it.

I've been spending a lot of time grinding, drilling and chiselling all the factory rivots that hold the crossmembers and spring hangers in place. But we've been getting a lot of rain around here lately so I haven't had many good days to work on it.

Here's what the 54 Frame looks like right now.

I'm going to replace the main crossmember and the bad spring hangers, weld in patches on the other two torched crossmembers. the new frame also has good front frame horns ( where the front bumper bolts to ) . So I'm going to cut them off the parts frame and weld them onto the 54 frame.

I'm still undecided on the motor. I keep flip flopping between wanting to run the 300 or the 460. The supercharger is on hold for now ( too much money needed to build the engine ) . Right now I want to get this done. I've currently got more parts for the 460. I think I'm going to get the rolling chassis done and then decide which motor to run when I get to the point of needing the motor. I've got a lot to get done before next June!

                  Looking good????

I've got a lot to get done before the BTT50's show in June! I'm not shooting for finished, at this point I'll be more then happy with having it driveable! So it may not be real pretty. But I'm going to do my best to be there in the 54! Hopefully I won't have to haul it there on the trailer!

It's raining! I hate when it rains!!

Well I got the frame tore down, Mocked up the steering box and broke out the welder. I welded up 105 uneccessary holes in the frame and welded up 5 cracks.

I will be repairing the two torched crossmembers that are left in the frame. Replacing two crossmembers I removed from the spare frame. Then I'm going to box the frame. I need to get the frame finished and painted before it gets too cold to paint it.

I haven't had a chance to work on the frame for a few days. So today I repaired the front crossmember. I patched the torched out area and welded up 4 more holes. I still have a little grinding left to do on it but it looks much better now and hopefully is stronger.

                                Before:

                                After:

I also bolted in the second crossmember.

I need to pull it back out tomorrow to weld up a couple small cracks, grind down the areas where the nuts sit ( I'm going to weld the nuts to the crossmember ) . I'm also going to spray the end of the crossmember and the inside of the frame where it sits with some weld thru primer.

As of right now I'm on my third 2 lb. spool of wire in my welder and am also on my third grinding disc. I wasn't counting on the going thru the stuff this quick. The consumables are adding up a lot quicker then I was counting on!
