    Update on the Hillbilly SUV

If anyone knows how to make IMG tags work around here feel free to enlighten me.

Well I have finally gotten a couple of weeks in a row where I worked less than 60 hours, so I have spent a little time working on some small projects.

    Here are a few.

    Wood steering wheel.

It sticks out a bit farther than the stock one but I like it a lot. I figure that with all the fake wood on the car one real piece won't hurt anything.

    Bucket seats...sorta.

I wanted a pair of buckets, but didn't want to give up my uber comfy box seats. So I compromised. I took them out, flipped them over, and cut the extensions off the seat frames. I then tucked the excess upholstery underneath. Not great, but not bad either.

    Pushbar lights.

Some of you guys might remember I went so far as to put up a poll about these. They are mini spots for a police bike. They are pretty bright, but they are not a lot of help when driving unless you want to blind the pee out of whoever is in front of you.

    Alternator upgrade.

My alt went out and my spare had a bad voltage regulator. I probably could have taken the two and made one good one, but I had been itching for an excuse to upgrade. I got a good buy on a used 3g alt from a 95 mustang on ebay, so I snagged it. The lights are noticably brighter, and it also gives me an excuse to do something absolutely useless but cool.

    Dual batteries 1800 cranking amps.
You read right. I had an extra battery sitting around so I pulled the windshield washer/coolant overflow bottle and mounted an extra battery tray. A medium size battery fits in there like ford intended it that way. (granted my extra battery is a little to big but when it dies...) As soon as I can get over to one of my parts cars and snag some extra battery cables and an extra solenoid, I'll make it functional. Some big rectifier diodes will serve as a battery isolator. I shouldn't have to worry about needing a jump start. That and I'll be able to jumpstart a diesel truck if I decide I want to.

Also in that picture, is my $2 ricer air filter/warm air intake. It may be tacky, but there is a lot more room under the hood with the stock stuff gone.

Last but not least are my uber tacky fuzzy dice. The word among the ricer crowd is, they are good for another 20hp!

    Neat!

Would be better if you took the pics during the day though...The interior shots are really dark...

Sweet mang. I LOVE that steering wheel. I am hating the fact my wagon is a airbag car more and more everyday.

Are you trying to IMG tag the upload links or a link from another site you uploaded too? Should work just like they always do if you have the .jpg extention or whatever it may be.

Thanks! I got it from a friend who had it in a 74 ford pickup he had restored. Unfortuntely for him, the truck had manual steering and he had trouble getting a good enough grip on this one so he put the original back on. A 20$ adapter and 6 months later, I finally got around to putting it on. The only thing I dont like about it thus far is actuall having to take one hand off the wheel to use the turn signals. With the stock wheel I could just extend a finger and hit it without letting go.
As for the airbag wheels, I like the look of them much more than the stock 79-89 wheels even though I hate airbags. I have one out in the barn still attached to the steering column. I ought to go out there and pull it to see what it would take to swap them out. I am pretty sure you would loose your horn and cruise functions on an airbag car though. I woult thinksomeone makes an adapter just for racing etc, that would work.

              I havent had much luck with IMG tags around here. I was trying to put the IMG tags on the links from the uploads. I put the lower case IMG between some [] brackets like so {img}link{/img}

As you can see though, the pic doesnt show, and the tags disappear.

yeah you have to host them somewhere and get a URL for the pic ending in the filename for the pic for it to work.

                        Kickass...

I've been wanting to do that with my steering wheel for over a year, I just keep procrastinating on it...

Thanks for all the positive comments guys.

I really just started on this thing because it was a crazy idea I had rolling around in the back of my mind for years, and I decided it would be fun. Not to mention for me turning wrenches on something like this is a great a stress reliever. (aka garage therapy) I have finally come to a stage in my life where I have decided I am done with trying to impress people. (Life is so much more fun when you wake up one morning and realize you don't really give a crap about what other people think of you.) So with this car, I did stuff solely because I liked it. I have been genuinely surprised (and pleased) to discover that I am not the only one out there with a warped sense of what is cool. LOL! My wife doesn't share my views though. She won't be seen within 25' of it. She has remarked that everywhere it goes, women scorn it, and men offer to buy it. Granted nobody has offered me a lot for it, but inquiries have been made more than once in her presence. (we drove seperately, of course.)

For once, I am having a ball, and I am gratified that someone else out there likes it too. You might call it a two ton conversation piece.

Like a couple of old men peddeling wine coolers used to say, "thank you for your support."
