First lemme say, it PAYS to work in the automotive buisness!!
On my day off yesterday, I wore my work shirt into our local auto glass shop, carrying my replacement rear liscence plate bucket, asking about the sticky seal and if they had anything to replace it with.
The guy behind the counter is like 'oh, sure' and comes back with 6 rolls of butyl rope sealer they use for windshields and said 'here - on the house'. Evidently they get a lot in with some glass kits, but they use thier own kind, and wind up with extra. Score! I checked auto zone and the same stuff goes for about 8 bux for a simmilar sized roll.
So anyway - after cleaning up the tag bucket and digging off the old sealer, I stretched out this stuff untill it was about pencil thin and stuck it all around the border... looks like it ought to do the trick!
My old bucket had 3 cracks in it and was very stained... this one isnt perfect but it cleaned up nice.
Next is to figure out how to re-seal my tail lights... They are letting water in my trunk. I havent had any luck trying to find OEM style gaskets, so I may wind up trying a thick double double row of this stuff... i definitly got plently of it.
