I totally see your point, just could never bring myself to drive a prius. Is there any chance you could do both? Keep the panther to mess with and enjoy, then drive the Jetson's car for commuting? That'd be a happy medium. Not being a commuter, my car doesn't really have to be practical. If it got 4mpg it really wouldn't matter because I drive it like 2000mi a year. Years ago, I decided I had to get a "practical" car. Bought a little Nissan pickup, which was a good value and a decent little truck, but it was boring and I fucking despised it. Vowed to never again purchase a vehicle based on economy or practicality. As a case-in-point, I live on a crowded street that is all parallel parking. I own a '90 crown vic and take home my extended econoline service van that I have to park every day. Haven't hit anyone yet but sometimes I have to walk a 1/4 mile down the street. Doesn't matter, I like my large vehicles.

Shitty roads are also a consideration and it sounds like yours are just as bad as ours. Again, since I don't drive the car much it's not a biggie but yeah, road quality is abysmal here, despite them continuing to raise taxes to fund road improvements(pay for dental for illegals). Gas goes up like another $0.18 a gallon in the next month or two and I bet the roads don't get any better. Oh well, just need to move out of this socialist craphole. Then I can buy more panthers!

The insurance here is too expensive to have both. plus I would have to worry about moving the car every weekday at 9am (street cleaning)..

That's another issue I had. The size isn't good for driving down residential roads in Queens, they are EXTREMELY tight when cars are parked on each side and have someone else driving down the road, or is double parked. Also parallel parking is a bitch.

Yah, it was a bonus that we lucked out on a fire lane street or whatever it's called. Plus, no one can park on our side of the street legally so don't have to worry about loiterers and all that. People seem to park a mile away from the curb nowadays...

Fire lane? We don't have those here LOL.

And people here will get a hefty fine if they park further than 6 inches from the curb. Also, they will probably lose a mirror on top of the fine.

I think it is a finable offense but that would have to be called in. The old hag across the street hates us so she would probably do that but I park close to the curb as possible.

I called it a Fire lane but it might just be an emergency vehicle lane or something. Just means the street is wider to accommodate Fire trucks and such. The fire department is right down the street.

Even though my '86 Tudor has front fender (top) rot, I still gets thumbs up and comments from folks in the hood here in NYC....most say it's a great "old school" ride......and I tell them it's almost 4,000 lbs of air ride luxury Interior is mint, if only I were moving to Arizona or NM....

Life is too short to drive boring cars. We pay 0 a month to own any car in our fleet, only maintenance and routine fluid changes which you'd have to do on any vehicle. Gas is in our opinion negligible, since at this point to get anything "better" on it would cost more money and the difference in said MPG would take years to add up to anything significant based on our calculations. Plus, they're just not fun. I've thought about a 3.8 powered 5 speed 1998 Rustang but like always, the minute I start to warm up to a particular car is the minute they go up in value. Not cool.
