88-91 bumpers on 87 and older

The overhang bumpers have bugged the shit out of me ever since I've had the car, front one especially. Rear one doesn't seem as bad but front is way too wide for the car. So, do 88-91 bumpers fit on 87 and older? I am not worried about plastic filler pieces on the sides, I can mod those. Better yet, anyone have pics?

I was thinking of using LTD bumpers on a Merk. If I can find them in aluminum I can save a bunch of weight too. The other option is to section the existing bumpers and make them hug the body more.

They fit but it will be ugly as hell. You'll have that huge turn signal sticking out further then the bumper ends.

Back to the drawing board. What about attaching the bumper further forward?

The aero-box bumper has that drop in the middle for the grill location. You could probably use the MGM bumper and filler panel and just make up any gaps/sand down the molding line to flush up to your box. But the fact that the filler isn't flat in the middle may require some mad bodywork skills on the grill section since that's flat on yours.

Both the rounded boxy bumpers (88-91) as well as the actual ford LTD bumpers were mentioned. What bumpers are you referring to here?

IMHO sectioning the original bumpers is the only way this will still look at perfect as the rest of the car.

What about Town Car bumpers? They are straight in the center and have turn signals as well.

The TC bumper looks like it may be the best option. Meld the TC filler panels into the center section of your filler panel and paint.

The TC bumper might be the best bet since they stick out far enough. An aero box bumper tucks in so tight I can't imagine it looking good with a 79-87 front end.

Did they make TC bumpers in aluminum?

I know in 89 the TC used both steel and aluminum.

Yes! I think the base ("Executive") models got the steel bumpers, and the "Signature Series" and "Cartier" got the aluminum?
