    Adjusting doors on a box.

Hey guys I have a question about adjusting the doors on a crown victoria that got smacked about a bit. I need to know the best way to go about straightening out a door that is up too high on the striker side. Basically I have screwed around with the bolts I am able to access using a ratchet on the door side, and I am able to get it so the chrome strip on the top no longer catches on the pillar trim and you can open it without throwing your entire body into it, but is is still significantly higher then the door behind it.

For those who have done door adjustments on a box. What are the best way to go about it. Somebody on the CVN told me to just use a racheting wrench. issue is I need to adjust the upper hinge since it looks like it got pushed back a bit. My car has power nothing so removing the door would not be an issue if thats a route I can go down. The only issue with that route is without the door on it seems to be a crap shoot to if the adjustment is helping. Removing the front fender would be optimal, but that seems to be quite a lot of work.

What is the best option to go about adjusting my door?

Thanks guys. If you need to pictures of how it looks just let me know. I'll go outside and snap a few pictures.

cuss a lot and mess with it till it goes. I've honestly never found a particularly easy way to get this done. The hinge will also adjust on the door side of it too, but thats more for in/out tilt at the top. The pillar side adjustments are for up/down front to back. If the door side was off and re-bolted with the door much too high though, it could just be straight up too high rather than tilted too high at the back.

The last time I needed one done, I plotted to have my aunt's neighbor smash the door and fender, then I got parts from the junkyard and had John put them on. Damn door works better than it ever has.

What I am guessing I am going to need to do is remove the front fender loosen up the bolts on every thing and just shut the door and see where it "wants to go" and then tighten everything down. Only issue is removing the fender implies form what I see I need to remove my hood as well...

You can sneak a swivel extension in there... though you risk chipping paint. The center bolt (the one that's offset) can be sneaky reached with a box end wrench from the cabin side of the door. The "proper way would be to take the hinges off the door and then adjust them and re-hang the door on the hinges. But that's a real PITA.

Hang on it while it is open. Adjust striker down.

Only problem with removing the fender to adjust it is that the chances of it not hitting the fender when it goes back on are less than zero.

Be sure to use thick tape on edges of door and body and fender if you don't want scratches.

I used about 4 or 5 layers and still managed to chip paint. YMMV
