Hey Knuckle......do a search of my friend Nick Berger's Avanti....he calls it Cristine....amazing car...he lives out your way in Westminster CA...down near Long Beach.....

I think Derek got confused by the same thing that confused me for a very long time. That being that the engines in these were 289CI in displacement. I just took for granted it was a Ford motor until I did some reading much later on. They were a wild-looking car at the time and I still do a double-take whenever I see one. Very cool toploader.

Toward the end of production Studebaker VP Andy Granatelli developed two additional engines........one the R-3....305 CID racing blower.....built in Santa Monica CA.....guaranteed to 400 BHP at the FW......then the R4........two dual quad AFBs.......under quoted at 280 BHP...and finally the R-5.....Bendix FI.....and blowers.........just under 600 BHP..........ran the salt flats at just under 200 MPH..........but by then the board of directors pulled the plug........and 115 years of vehicle building came to a crashing end.............they did build cars for two years in Canada......after USA production ended.

I can't really say I like the look. The white wall against the rim looks odd and the yellow stripe doesn't help either.

My Firestones have been holding up just fine since they went on and hold the road very well.

Also, I find it ironic to see this thread later on since I did go black wall for a while and then came to the conclusion that the car felt that it was lacking something and wound up going back to white walls a few months later.

Just put four new Hankook ww's on my Avanti 205X75X15.......look excellent!.......price was great.......5 tires delivered to my door complete 320.00

IMO the car is just too "roundy" and new car like for white walls. Those look best on cars from the era of chrome bumpers & glass headlights.

I also have the hankooks on my 72 F100 FWIW they are rated for 70k and as mentioned you can't beat the price.
