So I bought a brush guard for $30, but...

It has a dent in it. And this dent isn't coming out with any mundane method; the thing is so strong I doubt I could dent it myself with a hammer.

Anyone know how I might repair this?

Putting it here because I keep forgetting to mention it. It's not very exciting at the moment.

The only other way would be to cut the back side of the tubing out, carefully tap it back into shape, and weld shut your access panel. That still probably wouldn't come out quite perfect.

Welding in another section doesn't sound like too big of a problem, but there is the matter of re-finishing the chrome on that section and bending it back into alignment. Those shouldn't be too difficult for someone with the right tools, should it?

However it works out, it should be significantly less expensive than buying a new one for $250.

You're gonna pay way more than $250 to fix it. Probably why you were able to buy a dented one on the cheap. Call it a battle scar, and roll with it.

Welding in a chunk is the easy part, the chrome is hard. Thats the kind of thing you rattle can. Having it re-dipped would probably cost more than new.

One possibility that would likely be impractical would be to force a big steel ball through the tube. If the ends of the tube are sealed, then it probably wouldn't be worth opening them up. Other issues would be whether you would be able to restore the original bend in the tube and whether you would be able to avoid damaging the chrome finish.

The ones that I've seen tend to be black. Does it really need to be chrome? If not, then welding in a piece seems to be the way to go.

What I was thinking was to attach a strip or a round piece of black rubber to the bumper bar. It might look good and cover the damage.

This is what I was thinking. The ends of it seem to be plugged by plates with a hex key hole in them. If I could get those off and round it out from the inside, it'd be pretty easy. Even if it doesn't come ALL the way out, it'd be a definite improvement to at least have the right shape.

And this is what I was thinking to cover the rest of the damage. Possibly something to mount the fog lights on.

Well, here's what's on the ends of the tube. This should be really easy to cut off and weld back on. I'll be satisfied if I can just get most of the dent out and get it back in the right shape. The upper tube is loose now, so apparently the bent lower tube was pressing outward on the frame and keeping the upper one secure.

Also included is what it looks like under all that rust.

Wear it proudly to show that you're not to be messed with.

If I had a brush guard, I wouldn't worry about chrome. I'd probably spray it with bedliner. I'm with Sly on this one-- beater gonna beat.
