Need advice on changing a power antenna mast!

My power antenna mast for my crown vic stopped going down all of the way but will go up. I'm trying to replace it with a new one but the old one wont come out. I tried to remove the antenna motor but its stuffed down into the fender its almost impossible to reach. I already got the special nut along with the spacer and bushing out Ill post pictures if necessary.

I seem to recall having easy access to the power antenna when I had my plastic inner fender pulled back to fix a rain water leak on the '91. I know the firewall changed in 1990 but I would imagine that's still the way to go to get access to it on an '89-. Mine's an aftermarket replacement done by previous owner so the specific mounting method might be different, but it should be easier from in the wheel well.

to remove the antenna... you pretty much have to drop the inner fender and then you have really good access to it. There is a bolt/screw on the bottom holding it to the fender. Tire off is kind of a requirement.

Thanks Actually got it done without taking the tire off and i got the re install right but the after market antenna is to skinny and it wobbles when it goes up. I ordered another mast by accident so ill see if that's thick enough to fit it tomorrow.

from what I've seen, the aftermarket masts do not have the plastic spacer/sliders that support and maintain the proper spacing between the metal portions so they tend to rattle too.

getting the power antenna out of a Vic is a PITA. I don't know what posessed them to put it in the front, or in that hole, but ugha. The Lincolns were in the back, which makes it cake to do. I think the last power antenna Grand Marq I worked on we gave up on trying to make it work correctly after several antennas wouldn't pull in any stations, and we stuck a regular fixed antenna on there. Those work, and don't require much nonsense to replace the whip on if it gets broken.

Same with my 91 GM. The previous owner swapped out the power antennae for a regular one so I had the antennae button on the dash that did nothing. Worked great though.
