    Plasti Dip

I’ve been messing around with some Plasti Dip. My vinyl roof is getting sun damaged. I’ve replaced it back in 2008. So it lasted about 6 years in the Alabama sun (not garage kept). I not sure I want to replace it again only to last 5-8 years. So I did some test patches with Plasti Dip. In a nutshell it looks like Plasti Dip will extend the life of the roof for a few more years. At least until I figure out if I want to put on a new vinyl roof or try for a slick top.

Here’s the link to my DipYourCar Vinyl Roof forum page:

Interesting idea to do it on the vinyl...but can't see the pictures without joining that forum.

Didn 't know they blocked if you weren't a member. Here's the pics and a copy/paste from the forum:

I did a couple of test patches. I used anthracite metallic gray. The 1st one is on the most sun damaged area. It feels like sand paper. It was hard to even clean with alcohol. You can see a concentrated circle. That part did not peel off. You can see my finger nail scratches on the upper right side.

The 2nd test was on the more slick area with much less sun damage. It does peels off fairly easy. Not as easy as paint, but it does come off. There was a little residue left behind, but that disappeared after a couple of days in the sun.

In my opinion Dip will repair the roof or at the very least make it look way better. However, it will be permanent on the most severely damaged areas.

hmm... lots cheaper than new vinyl... I wonder if dip comes in early 80s Lincoln Cream.

Doesn't look too bad! I think my roof is far too gone for this to help though. It's basically in complete tatters on the top.

Funny that you mention this, I purchased a product made by Performix (they make Plastic-Dip) called VLP.
The vinyl roof on my Tudor GM is cracked/split in many areas.........this stuff is clear vinyl in a tube.

I used two tubes to fill in all of the splits, it can be seen, but who cares?..........I have stopped the rain from penetrating into the padded area.

hmm... VLP to smooth everything out... then palsti-dip to paint it... dun.

They have a list of colors, but if you watch the YouTube videos you can mix what you want to get the colors you want. They also have additives like metallics and pearls.
