I have a water leak coming in where the black plastic housing for the heater core is. It loves to pool on the floor boards under my rubber flooring. MY question is, do I have to basically go through the procedure of taking the heater core out to seal it, or is there a way to seal the whole thing without going through the trouble?

Take that screen off by the windshield on the passenger side and make sure it's not full of crap down there.1990 MGM: $50 E7 heads, HO cam, Holley SysteMAX lower intake, HO upper intake with an Explorer TB. LSC ECM. Lincoln logs into stock dual exhaust. K&N drop in air filter. Wide ratio AOD, 2400 converter with a 3.08 one tire fire out back. Car is less slow now. Then there's the '92 Beater. Dual 2.25" exhaust with shiny tips. Rumbles nice. Super slow. Burns oil too. -
This is likely due to the heater core being replaced at some point. Best thing to do is, remove the vent screen by the windshield then, seal it up with some good sealer/caulking. It should be good then. Just be carefull when washing your car that, you dont point the water directly into the screen.

Only place it could be coming through is the air intake vent by the windshield, or maybe if water is running down the firewall, it might be coming in around the bolts that hold the heater core box in place. The bottom of that air intake box is supposed to have a drain in it, and its usually packed full of crud. Check that first.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Thanks guys, I put a tarp over the windshield area of the car during this massive rainstorm, I'm tired of ripping the floor up to dry it out. I'll check all those places. The heater core is original (amazingly, and the cooling system is pristine). I really want to nip this in the bud. I also have a small leak coming from around the windshield, but I intend to take the trim off and seal it with some black silicone.-Phil

Found 2 leaking grommets, one coming in from the door into the lower a pillar area, and the other in the firewall leaking water. Also there is a smaller slower leaking coming in the heater box. (see Pic) I'm going to try to get to the nut on the other side and tight it, as well as apply black RTV to the grommets, and the bottom of that intake screen
